Job summary

JT4, LLC seeks an experienced Flight Test Instrumentation Technician Level III to maintain airborne test systems for advanced fighter aircraft. You will perform inspections, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation on-aircraft, and fabricate cable harnesses to interface with sensors and data systems.

The role requires hands-on expertise with electronics, test equipment, and RF devices, plus the ability to work in field environments and obtain security clearance.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher; or technical schooling with math, basic electronics, and microwave theory; or military equivalent and 7 years hands-on experience
• ISCET certification
• Experience with tubes, transistors, logic gates, and/or high‑power RF devices
• Expert-level troubleshooting and soldering capabilities
• Valid state driver's license
• Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance
• U.S. citizen

Responsibilities

• Document operation and performance of airborne test instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and ground support equipment
• Use diagnostic tools like multimeter, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, signal generator, frequency meter, and logic probe for checkout, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair
• Fabricate cable harnesses, populate electronic assemblies, crimping, and wire terminations to interface equipment with sensors and test equipment
• Provide feedback and technical knowledge to assist in complex aircraft modifications and process improvements
• Mentor lower-level technicians and provide on-site guidance
• Perform other related duties as assigned and support engineering staff

JT4, LLC provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II. JT4 develops and maintains realistic, integrated test and training environments and prepares our nation's war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and aircrews for today's missions and tomorrow's global challenges.

What You Will Do with JT4

The Flight Test Instrumentation Technician Level III will help us maintain all aspects of the flight test systems for a variety of advanced fighter aircraft. The Technician will conduct scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, modification, inspection, wire repair, and troubleshooting.

• Apply technical knowledge of electronic principles to solve complex problems using diagrams, schematics, engineering data and test equipment, including power systems, sensors/transducers, data/video recording, TSPI, Ethernet, and telemetry subsystems
• Perform operational checks, pre & post flight procedures, troubleshooting and repair of instrumentation on-aircraft as required, utilizing knowledge of schematics, mechanical drawings, wire diagrams, and technical publications documentation
• Fabricate, terminate, and repair cable harnesses, conduct electronic tests on a regular basis, and build prototype electronic assemblies
• Provide feedback, insights, and technical knowledge to assist in complex aircraft modifications, troubleshooting efforts, and process and procedure improvements
• Mentor lower-level technicians and provide on-site guidance for some tasks, as needed
• Perform all other related duties as assigned or requested and support the engineering staff

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

• Document the operation and performance of airborne test instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and ground support equipment
• Use diagnostic tools like a multimeter, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, signal generator, frequency meter, and logic probe to accomplish specific tasks like checkout, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair
• Fabricate cable harnesses, populate electronic assemblies, crimping, and wire terminations to interface equipment with sensors, data acquisition units, and test equipment and expert soldering skills
• Use thermocouples, temperature reference junctions, accelerometers, charge amplifiers, pressure transducers, strain gauges, piezoelectric transducers, flow meters, transmitters, and signal conditioners
• Hands‑on experience in electrical, instrumentation, and avionics maintenance on aircraft like, tubes, transistors, logic gates, and/or high‑power RF devices

RANGE POSITION DESCRIPTION

• Ability to work in a field environment, which may include shift work, overtime, and travel to remote locations
• Regular exposure to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, and noise

REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, TECHNICAL, AND WORK EXPERIENCE

An associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college; or technical schooling with courses in math, basic electronics, and microwave theory; or a military equivalent and a minimum of seven (7) years of hands‑on experience are required for this position.

In addition, an Electronics Technician III must possess the following qualifications:

• International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians (ISCET) certification
• Demonstrated expertise in electronic, electro‑mechanical, and computer systems and the test equipment used to maintain and repair equipment
• Experience with tubes, transistors, logic gates, and/or high‑power radio frequency (RF) devices
• Expert‑level troubleshooting and soldering capabilities
• Must possess a valid, state issued driver’s license
• Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance
• Must be a U.S. citizen

SALARY

The expected salary range for this position is $84,000 to $94,000 annually.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Employee will be required to work some shift work, at remote locations, and occasional over-night assignments.

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Outdoor duties may be performed on even or uneven surfaces, which may be dry or wet. Grease or oil may be found on working surfaces. Outdoor duties may be performed on gravel or shingled roof. Climbing stairs, ladders, towers, and scaffolds, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, (anything heavier requires two or more people or mechanical assistance) are required. A government vehicle is used on an as-needed basis.
