Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair range tracking hardware and mobile systems at DATR NASA Armstrong.
  • Troubleshoot with calibrated test equipment; analyze failures; replace components; fabricate and integrate.
  • Maintain equipment history logs of maintenance activities.
  • Assist with surges and cross-training; support safety and housekeeping.

Electronics Technician II - Aeronautical Tracking Facility (WBS 150)

JOB SUMMARY

Electronics Technician I is accountable to the Aeronautical Tracking Facility (ATF) Work Group Lead (WGL) for the overall support of in-scope work in WBS 150. This includes providing technical support to ensure timely completion of work while meeting or exceeding quality standards. This position receives technical guidance from the ATF WGL and senior coworkers such as the Field Service Engineer. Work is reviewed for compliance with accepted practices.


DUTIES


  • Perform real-time operations, including mission preflight configuration and checkout.

  • Under the direction of a Field Service Engineer or the WGL, perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all hardware used for Range tracking and mobile systems located in the Dryden Aeronautical Tracking Range (DATR) facility at the NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center. Perform troubleshooting on systems by using calibrated test equipment; analyze sources of failures; remove and replace failed components. Fabricate, assemble, and integrate components, systems, and test devices according to configuration control requests.

  • Maintain equipment history logs to track maintenance activities.

  • Perform other related duties as required by management to include supporting other work centers during surges. This may include cross training into other function areas to meet overall contract performance objectives. Assist with general housekeeping of the work area. May be required to support safety, environmental or tower climbing activities.


REQUIRED SKILLS


  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Computer system literacy. Ability to effectively use desktop Microsoft applications such as; Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio and Outlook. .

  • Technical familiarity with the equipment operated and maintained at the DATR or similar equipment is desired.

  • Ability to read, write and understand English

  • Ability to successfully complete the NASA soldering course

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government Secret Security Clearance

  • Must possess a valid driver's license


EXPERIENCE

ElectronicsTechnician II: Requires at least 3 years of related work experience


EDUCATION

Associate's degree in Electronics Technology or a similar field. In lieu of the associate's degree, High School graduate or High School equivalency and completion of formal training in an accredited commercial or military electronics school.


WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

Range environment with work at remote locations, prolonged sitting while using the computer and the telephone, constant use of sight abilities, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness. Ability to work extended and flexible hours including weekends. Ability to pass a heavy equipment physical exam required to operate motorized equipment such as forklifts, bucket lifts and platform personnel lifts. Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. Ability to climb stairs and ladders. Work location is in a desert environment, and employees are in contact with various desert wildlife. Occasional travel is required.
