The position requires an Associate degree in Electronics; no additional experience beyond the degree is required, with credit for related experience. On-site work with potential collaboration with faculty and researchers.

Responsibilities

  • Construct, operate and maintain standard electronic equipment and instruments.
  • Repair electronic circuits by replacing faulty parts and soldering connections.
  • Machine parts, fabricate chassis, install tubes and other components per blueprints/diagrams.
  • Inspect malfunctioning instruments, analyze causes and plan repairs; follow preventive maintenance schedule.
  • Operate test equipment to calibrate instruments and parts to spec; assist faculty and researchers and staff.
  • Prepare orders for parts and supplies and maintain records of parts and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

Work requires a background in Electronics normally acquired through a two-year Associate degree program in Electronics to become familiar with electronic equipment and experimental devices and apparatus common to an electronics repair facility.

Experience

No additional experience is required beyond the Associate degree.

Credit for directly related experience is given on a two for one basis (i.e., four (4) years of related experience are required in lieu of an Associate Degree).

OR ANY OTHER EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.

Work Performed
  • Perform a variety of technical tasks in the construction, operation and maintenance of standard electronic equipment and experimental instruments and apparatus; repair electronic circuits by replacing malfunctioning parts and soldering broken connections.
  • Machine parts, fabricate chassis, install tubes and other parts, and solder connections as specified in the blueprint and diagrams for construction of new equipment and instruments.
  • Inspect malfunctioning instrument or components, analyze cause and plan repair procedures; follow predetermined schedule of preventive maintenance.
  • Operate test equipment to adjust and calibrate completed instruments and parts for conformance with specified tolerances. Provide technical assistance, instruction and consultation to faculty and student researchers and to staff members for the resolution of special problems.
  • Prepare orders for new parts and supplies and maintain records and files on status and location of all electronic parts and equipment.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Anticipated Pay Range:

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $22.05 to USD $36.47.
