Job summary

OLEDWorks in Rochester, NY is seeking an Electronics/Software Engineer to research, design, develop and test electronics, circuits and systems for OLED Lighting products, combining hardware and software to support prototypes and production demos. Responsibilities include PCB layout and schematic design, component selection, extensive testing, SOP documentation, and development of demonstration software.

A BS in Electronics/Electrical Engineering and 3–5 years' related experience are required;

  • 3–5 years of related experience in R&D or manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Proficiency in Embedded C, C++, Python and CAD tools is expected.

Job description

Job Summary: The Electronics/Software Engineer is responsible for researching, designing, developing, and testing electronics components, circuits, and systems for the creation and manufacturing of OLED Lighting products. Employs knowledge of electronic theory/engineering, materials properties, and testing methodology and procedures. Collaborates with others to build and ensure the functionality and quality of Lighting, Microdisplay, & Display prototypes, demo applications, and products under development. The Engineer is also responsible for software development to drive Lighting, Microdisplay & Display prototypes. Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to complete projects.


Essential Functions:



  • Designs electronics for various OLED technology products and demo applications.

  • Designs circuitry and printed circuit board (PCB) layouts using schematic design software.

  • Conducts research and studies new technologies to innovate and design solutions or products.

  • Performs extensive testing and validation of designs independently or collaboratively to ensure reliability, performance, and safety standards are achieved.

  • Orders electronics materials and parts needed from preferred vendors and keeps an organized inventory of the parts.

  • Assembles parts in the research lab using various materials such as solder, and/or uses various tools in the machine shop. May use additive manufacturing techniques (such as 3D printing).

  • Uses schematic design software to design and draw circuits.

  • Troubleshoots IC/PCB design with appropriate test and lab equipment.

  • Writes, reviews, and updates documentation and SOPs in collaboration with site Quality Manager.

  • Oversees production and assembly of demonstrators and prototypes needed for trade shows, conventions, and customer tech days; may include PCB modification, cabling or other assembly items.

  • Develop intuitive demonstration software that meets stakeholder requirements. Thoroughly document and test software before release. Promptly resolve software bugs or vulnerabilities.

  • Interacts with internal and external stakeholders to design/plan automation systems for manufacturing line, includes participating in start-up, commissioning, overhaul, and maintenance periods.

  • Resolves engineering design and test problems, and/or customer problems.

  • Participate in integration of technical activities and products or technology.

  • Prepares interim and completion project reports.

  • Supports and works closely with the technology/product development engineers. Works on various special projects as assigned by the Director of User Experience (UX), OLED Lighting.

Education & Experience:



  • A bachelors degree in Electronics Engineering or Electrical Engineering is required.

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of related job experience required, with experience in a research and development and/or a manufacturing environment preferred.


Competencies & Skills: Must have a customer (internal and external) service focused attitude and experience/knowledge with FMEA/Risk Analysis and Problem Solving\\Proficient electrical/electronic design skills including electrical, schematic, and PCB design. Strong working knowledge of 2D computer aided design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD or DraftSight required.


Experience with schematic design software such as KiCAD or Altium Designer preferred. Experience with 3D computer aided design (CAD) software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion or Rhino3D preferred. Proficiency in coding languages including Embedded C, C++, and Python required. Embedded Systems design experience required (Direct Memory Access DMA, Threading, RTOS).
