Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory is seeking an Electronics Manufacturing Engineer to lead hardware fabrication for high‑reliability SMT assemblies in a fast-paced, high‑mix environment. You will interface with electrical and mechanical engineers to develop process plans and guide technicians while ensuring quality and schedule for space and national security programs.

A BS degree and 3+ years in electronics manufacturing are required, along with the ability to obtain a Secret security

Qualifications

  • BS degree or equivalent in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years in electronics manufacturing, high mix, low volume SMT.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work in a team with engineering partners.
  • Knowledge of solder joint characteristics and SMT processing tools/materials.
  • Able to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Willing to work in a Class 8 Cleanroom and travel up to 5%.
  • Able to obtain Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the manufacturing expert as part of a team designing and fabricating complex electronic assemblies for critical national programs.
  • Perform analyses to ensure hardware meets sponsor requirements; evaluate new materials and processes; work with vendors.
  • Generate, review and revise SOPs, work instructions, and process plans.
  • Own development, implementation, and improvement of fabrication processes for high reliability assemblies.
  • Guide and develop fabrication technicians in electronic assembly areas.
  • Program and/or develop process parameters for automated electronic assembly tools; maintain/repair tools.
