Job summary

Johnson Controls Federal Systems is seeking an Electronic Security Technician for a federal site in Norfolk, VA. The role focuses on installation, testing and service of ESS systems including access control, intrusion, and CCTV.

You will work primarily on a single government site with a day shift, no travel, and a strong emphasis on safety and compliance. Eligible benefits begin on day one, with vacation and holidays outlined in the offer.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience installing, inspecting, troubleshooting and repairing commercial/industrial security systems (intrusion, access, CCTV).
  • Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, specs, and manuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, oral and written, with teams.
  • Capable of using hand and power tools to mount equipment.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain DoD Top Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Install and service commercial/industrial ESS including access controls, intrusion, and cameras.
  • Install security devices per plan and NEC guidelines.
  • Assist with system programming and setup.
  • Test equipment operation after installation or repair.
  • Coordinate with police/fire departments and document emergency notifications.
  • Assist with estimates and end-user training.
  • Maintain safe work practices and cleanup materials.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Job description

We are seeking a commercial or industrial Electronic Security Technician to join our federal team based in Norfolk, VA.

Johnson Controls Federal Systems (JCFS) is a specialized team serving as a trusted partner to the federal government. We help modernize U.S. military installations, Department of Defense and other federal agency facilities to be smarter, more resilient, efficient, sustainable, and secure. Location: Norfolk, VA. All work is based at one federal government site in the area. No additional travel required.

Location: Norfolk, VA
Pay range: $25.00 - $38.00 per hour. Negotiable based on experience.
Shift: Primarily day shift, flexible start time between 7:00-8:00am until 4:00-5:00pm, Monday-Friday

Benefits:

  • Vacation: 3 weeks of paid vacation, 5 sick days, 3 floating holidays and 10 standard holidays per calendar year (6.5 weeks in total)
As an Electronic Security Technician, you will:
  • Conducts primarily installation work with some maintenance and service of commercial Electronic Security Systems (ESS) to include, but not limited to, access controls, intrusion detection, and camera systems. Specific systems include, but not limited to: Genetec, SoftwareHouse C-cure 9000, Lenel, DMP, Bosch, Exacqvision, MDI and American Dynamics.
  • Installs security devices and infrastructure at times in accordance with installation plan according to the national electric code, company and customer guidelines
  • Assists with security system programming and setup at times.
  • Conducts testing to ensure proper operation of equipment after installation or repairs
  • Conducts testing of system to the signal-receiving center to properly establish service.
  • Coordinates installations with police/fire departments and handles necessary records for notification of emergency calls.
  • May help prepare estimates in accordance with prescribed instructions or directions from supervisor
  • Conduct End-User training.
  • Works safely and responsibly to avoid injuries, damage to property, loss of unused materials and cleans up installation debris.
  • Performs other duties as required
Required Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience installing, inspecting, troubleshooting and repairing of commercial and/or industrial integrated / electronic security systems for complex low voltage intrusion, access control, CCTV and digital recording systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems programs, schematics and operational product manuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, while establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • Capable of using hand and power tools to properly mount and secure equipment
  • Works well unsupervised and also as part of a team environment
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret security clearance required. (This involves a background/character, criminal history, employment, and credit check.)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency working with Softwarehouse C-cure 9000, Genetech, and or Lenel
  • Proficiency working with commercial and/or industrial camera systems. Experience working with Bosch, MDI, and/or American Dynamics preferred.
Preferred Education:
  • Softwarehouse C-Cure 9000, Lenel, and/or Genetech certified
