Job Description

We are seeking a commercial or industrial Electronic Security Technician to join our federal team based in Norfolk, VA. At Johnson Controls Federal Systems (JCFS), we support the nation’s most critical facilities, modernizing U.S. military installations and federal agency sites to be smarter, more resilient, efficient, sustainable, and secure. All work is located at one federal government site in the area; no additional travel required.

Location: Norfolk, VA

Pay Range: $25.00 - $38.00 per hour, negotiable based on experience.

Shift: Primarily day shift, flexible start time between 7:00-8:00am until 4:00-5:00pm, Monday-Friday.

Benefits: Eligible for benefits on first day of employment. Vacation: 3 weeks of paid vacation, 5 sick days, 3 floating holidays, and 10 standard holidays per calendar year (6.5 weeks total).

As an Electronic Security Technician, You Will

• Conduct installation work with some maintenance and servicing of commercial Electronic Security Systems (ESS), including access controls, intrusion detection, and camera systems (Genetec, SoftwareHouse C-cure 9000, Lenel, DMP, Bosch, Exacqvision, MDI, American Dynamics).
• Install security devices and infrastructure per installation plan, following the national electric code, company, and customer guidelines.
• Assist with security system programming and setup as needed.
• Conduct testing to ensure proper operation of equipment after installation or repairs.
• Test system connectivity to the signal‑receiving center to establish service.
• Coordinate installations with police/fire departments and handle necessary records for notification of emergency calls.
• Help prepare estimates per supervisor instructions.
• Conduct End‑User training.
• Work safely and responsibly, avoid injuries, protect property, and clean up installation debris.
• Perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial and/or industrial electronic security systems for low‑voltage intrusion, access control, CCTV, and digital recording systems.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems programs, schematics, and operational product manuals.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, and ability to establish cooperative working relationships.
• Proficiency in using hand and power tools to mount and secure equipment.
• Can work well unsupervised and as part of a team.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency working with SoftwareHouse C-cure 9000, Genetech, and/or Lenel.
• Experience with commercial/industrial camera systems, especially Bosch, MDI, or American Dynamics.

Preferred Education

• Certifications in SoftwareHouse C-Cure 9000, Lenel, and/or Genetech.
