Electronic Maintenance Technician Assistant Supervisor - City and County of San Francisco - Multiple Departments Citywide (7329) (T00127)

Under general supervision, the Electronic Maintenance Technician Assistant Supervisor performs a wide variety of highly skilled electronic system troubleshooting, maintenance, testing, and repairs; exercises work direction over a small group of subordinate skilled and semi-skilled staff engaged in such work; and performs related duties as required.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises by planning, assigning and reviewing the work of a small group of skilled, semi-skilled and support staff performing troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, calibration, fabrication, installation, design, modification and development of a wide variety of electronic systems.
  • Performs quality assurance tests; assists in developing and modifying maintenance and repair policies and procedures.
  • Performs a variety of complex, non-routine electronic maintenance tasks including corrective and preventive maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, calibration, removal, installation, and system design and modification.
  • Advises staff in solving difficult problems and assists in training; enforces safety procedures; analyzes equipment failures and reports to supervisor.
  • Maintains records of maintenance activities including vehicle work orders and equipment test results.
  • Tests and calibrates electronic equipment using established test procedures; operates diagnostic test equipment and utilizes various schematics and manuals.
  • Inspects existing and newly installed equipment to evaluate performance under operating conditions.
  • Instructs other personnel in system maintenance procedures and operations.
  • Operates special hand and power tools required for maintenance tasks.
  • Inspects, maintains and repairs network communication systems, supervisory control, remote signal and control equipment.
  • Maintains detailed files and record-keeping system to assure accurate documentation of payroll/personnel.
  • Operates a motor vehicle to respond to service requests at various locations.

Nature of Work: Work involves some physical effort and exposure to hazardous equipment and materials.

How to qualify

Training: Completion of a two (2) year or equivalent program in electronics from a recognized institution; or equivalent military training; AND

Experience: Five (5) years of industrial or institutional electronics experience.

License: Possession of a valid California driver’s license.

Note on Departmental Requirements:

  • Possession of Class B Commercial Driver’s License may be required.
  • Two (2) years of experience working on utility power transmission and/or distribution systems.
  • Maintenance and repair of Transit Vehicles and/or Transit Vehicle Electronic Equipment.
  • Availability to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.
