Electronic Hardware Validation & Failure Analysis Engineer

Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage production part returns and conduct detailed electronic hardware failure investigations and root cause analysis.
- Perform validation and verification testing on new technology, new product introduction (NPI), and production electronic components.
- Receive, track, document, and coordinate incoming materials and outbound shipments.
- Investigate field-returned electronic hardware, identify failure modes, document findings, and communicate results to engineering teams and leadership.
- Review test plans and ensure testing is properly executed according to product development requirements.
- Perform hands-on electronic hardware testing using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMM), power supplies, and other diagnostic/test equipment.
- Develop and maintain clear documentation, including test procedures, test results, failure investigation reports, and part-tracking records.
- Provide regular updates to cross-functional engineering teams and management regarding validation results and failure investigations.
- Work closely with technical leads, platform leads, product development engineers, suppliers, dealers, and global engineering teams.
- Support product development activities involving electronic controllers, ECMs, ECUs, and related electronic hardware.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, test setups, and overall lab organization.
- Work in both office and laboratory environments. Required lab PPE includes EH-rated safety-toe shoes and safety glasses.
Required Skills
- Strong experience with electronic hardware failure investigation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
- Hands-on experience executing electronic hardware validation and verification testing.
- Proficiency using electronic laboratory equipment, including:
- Digital multimeters (DMM)
- Power supplies
- Other electronic diagnostic and measurement equipment
- Experience reviewing and executing test plans.
- Experience with electronics product development testing.
- Strong test report writing and technical documentation skills.
- Ability to accurately document failure investigations, test procedures, test results, and part tracking.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate findings to peers, cross-functional teams, and mid-level leadership.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated curiosity and problem-solving ability when investigating electronic hardware failures.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with ECMs, ECUs, or similar embedded electronic control hardware.
- Experience with SEAFOAM and WebPD or comparable engineering/product-development tools.
- Experience with EC-1 and EC-42 or comparable electronic component testing standards/processes.
- Experience with EMC and vibration testing.
- Experience supporting electronic products throughout the product development and validation lifecycle.
- Experience collaborating with global engineering teams, suppliers, and other technical stakeholders.
Education / Experience
One of the following combinations of education and relevant experience is preferred:
- Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) with approximately 12+ years of relevant experience, OR
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET) with approximately 8+ years of relevant experience, OR
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) with approximately 5+ years of relevant experience.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred; equivalent education combined with substantial relevant electronic hardware experience may also be considered.
- Relevant internship experience may be considered as part of the candidate's overall experience.
