Job summary

The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University in State College, PA is seeking an Engineering Technologist to support the EF&TS Department. You will assist in designing electromechanical and software systems, derive requirements, and develop testing tools.

Responsibilities include using CAD, conducting tests, documenting results, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project objectives in a hands-on environment. Some travel to remote sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; 0–5 years relevant work experience.
• Experience with electronics/electromechanical systems is essential.
• Ability to operate electronic test equipment and assemble/test circuitry.
• Strong written and verbal communication, and ability to document results.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design and implementation of electromechanical and software systems.
• Help derive requirements and support development of tools for testing complex systems.
• Develop electrical, mechanical, and software testing tools.
• Use CAD software to aid development of systems.
• Collaborate with project teams to meet objectives.
• Conduct tests and document results with conclusions and recommended changes.
• Support field and lab projects and evaluate new engineering tools.
• Work with design/analysis tools and test equipment.
