Job summary

The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State seeks an Engineering Technologist to join the Electronic Fabrication and Test Systems (EF&TS) Department. The role is fully on-site in State College, PA with occasional travel to remote locations and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to deliver innovative electromechanical solutions.

ARL supports Navy/DoD projects and offers a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Electronics and/or electro-mechanics experience.
  • Experience operating electronic test equipment and assembling/testing circuitry.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience writing test plans and reports.
  • Willingness to perform basic computer tasks or learn software.
  • Ability to work through difficult problems using systematic approaches.
  • Eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher (may require background check).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and implementation of electromechanical and software systems.
  • Assist in developing, defining and deriving requirements to support the design of electromechanical products.
  • Assist in developing electrical, mechanical, and software tools to support testing of complex electromechanical systems.
  • Conduct tests on electrical, mechanical, or software subsystems. Document results with conclusions and recommend design modifications.
  • Support and drive projects in the laboratory and the field.
