Job summary

Leviton in Melville, NY is seeking a hands-on Prototyping Technician to fabricate prototype parts, build test fixtures, and run mechanical and electrical tests on residential products.

You will operate a 3D printer, read drawings and CAD models, inspect parts with calipers and micrometers, and document results while following safety procedures.

Associates or bachelor's in a related field with 1–3 years of applicable experience, plus travel about 3%.

Qualifications

• Prototype, fabrication, laboratory, metrology, or electromechanical assembly experience.
• Interpret drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and basic schematics.
• Familiarity with 3D printing and dimensional inspection tools.
• Strong Microsoft Word/Excel skills and documentation discipline.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and assemble prototype parts, products, and test fixtures.
• Work from drawings, CAD models, bills of material, schematics, and specifications.
• Operate and maintain 3D printer.
• Inspect parts using optical measurement equipment, calipers, micrometers, pin gauges, and similar tools.
• Perform mechanical, electrical, dimensional, and functional testing.
• Support prototype troubleshooting, teardown, and failure analysis.
• Document builds, measurements, test results, and deviations.
• Maintain an organized and safe engineering laboratory.
• Work within Leviton's safety procedures while operating tools and 120V - 240 V electrical power sources.
