Whelen Engineering seeks an Electro-Mechanical Tech to troubleshoot and repair Whelen emergency lighting and siren devices. The role requires reading schematics and maintaining thorough documentation, working primarily from Chester, CT with a Monday–Friday schedule.

Candidates should have a High School diploma (or related technical schooling) and bend toward precise soldering and electrical assembly tasks, with regular lifting and teamwork in a regulated environment.

  • Able to read electronic assembly and schematic drawings.
  • Must read and write in English.
  • Normal color vision and various vision requirements relevant to electronics work.

Description

Job Title: Electro-Mechanical Tech

Department: Repair

Schedule: Monday – Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm

Facility location: Chester, CT

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Troubleshooting, failure analysis and repair of Whelen Emergency lighting and mechanical siren devices.
  • Communicate and document design problems, component failures and initial failures on newly designed product.
  • Maintain high work output without sacrificing quality.
  • Complete all administrative function relating to documentation of work performed and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform revision updates, rework, or repair to drawing specifications using a variety of hand tools, test fixtures, electronic test equipment and soldering equipment.
  • Replace broken assemblies and subassemblies and solder as needed.
  • As required assist with the receiving and shipping of items sent in for service
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Ability to read electronic assembly and schematic drawings.
  • Must read and write in English.
  • Computer literate
  • Normal Color Vision
  • Vision: Close vision; ability to work on electronic circuit boards with very small electronic components
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, reach with hands, and arm length, stoop, kneel and crouch.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle or feel.Ability to learn and maintain J-STD-10 and IPC-a-610II Soldering Standards
  • Work in a team environment
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to facilitate safety and service functions.
