Job summary

Forsyth Barnes is assisting a Minnesota-based client in recruiting an Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer - R&D. The role combines mechanical design, electrical components, sensors, and software-enabled functionality through the complete product development lifecycle.

You will work hands-on across prototyping, testing, validation, production launch, and post-launch improvements, collaborating with mechanical, electrical, embedded systems, manufacturing, and product teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or related.
• 5+ years' experience developing electro-mechanical products in manufacturing environments.
• Experience integrating mechanical designs with electrical components, sensors, actuators, motors, or embedded systems.
• Strong 3D CAD, drawings, BOMs, prototyping, testing, and technical design documentation.
• Experience in Stage-Gate/New Product Development processes.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop electro-mechanical products, subsystems, test fixtures, and demonstrators.
• Translate requirements into practical engineering concepts and designs.
• Integrate mechanical systems with sensors, actuators, controls, wiring, and embedded technologies.
• Produce drawings, BOMs, schematics, and specifications.
• Conduct prototyping, testing, validation, and root-cause analysis.
• Collaborate across mechanical, electrical, embedded, manufacturing, and product teams.
• Support product launches, supplier interactions, and manufacturability improvements.
