Job summary

Brakebush Brothers, Inc. is seeking an Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician to maintain and repair electrical and mechanical systems in poultry processing and production operations.

The role ensures equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with food safety and plant standards. Responsibilities include troubleshooting motors, drives, PLC systems, sensors, and automation; performing preventative maintenance; reading schematics and drawings; and supporting downtime reduction

Qualifications

  • Industrial maintenance experience with electrical and mechanical systems in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems including motors, starters, relays, sensors, VFDs, and control circuits.
  • Diagnose and repair PLC-controlled equipment and automated production systems.
  • Install and maintain electrical wiring, panels, switches, and control devices.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical components and instrumentation.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and ladder diagrams.

Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician

Industry: Poultry Processing / Food Production

Department: Maintenance

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor / Maintenance Manager

Job Summary

The Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and mechanical systems used in poultry processing and production operations. This role ensures all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with food safety and plant operational standards.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems including motors, starters, relays, sensors, VFDs, and control circuits.
  • Diagnose and repair PLC-controlled equipment and automated production systems.
  • Install and maintain electrical wiring, panels, switches, and control devices.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical components and instrumentation.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and ladder diagrams.
Mechanical Maintenance
  • Maintain and repair conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, chains, belts, and drive systems used in poultry processing.
  • Perform repairs on cut-up machines, deboning equipment, chillers, graders, and packaging equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and mechanical modifications when required.
Preventative Maintenance
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) on production and facility equipment.
  • Inspect machinery for wear, alignment, lubrication, and operational issues.
  • Maintain maintenance logs, work orders, and service records.
  • Assist with installation, startup, and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Support plant operations by responding quickly to equipment breakdowns and production issues.
  • Work with production teams to minimize downtime.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow OSHA, food safety, and plant safety regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Ensure equipment meets USDA and food processing standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical maintenance in an industrial environment.
  • Experience with motors, drives, PLC systems, sensors, and automated equipment.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and conveyor systems.
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment under production conditions.
Preferred Experience

Experience in poultry processing, food manufacturing, or agricultural processing plants.

  • Knowledge of refrigeration systems, chillers, and processing equipment.
  • Familiarity with CMMS maintenance systems.
  • Technical certification or trade school in industrial maintenance, electrical technology, or electro‑mechanical systems.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
  • Work in cold, wet, and production environments typical of poultry plants.
  • Ability to stand, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.

Successful completion of a pre‑employment drug test and background check are required.
