Location: East of downtown Pittsburgh, PA (On-site, 5 days/week)
Position Type: Full-Time
The Opportunity
In this role, you will serve as the technical anchor for a focused 6-person engineering group, taking designs from initial concept and CAD drafting directly to physical assembly on our manufacturing floor. You will lead panel architecture, circuit protection, component selection, and safety standard compliance across our core product builds.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Control Architecture & Schematics: Design complete industrial control panel layouts, single-line diagrams, and wiring schematics in CAD (AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or equivalent).
- Standards & Compliance: Direct panel design to ensure strict conformance with UL508A, NEC, and NFPA 70/79 codes.
- Component Sizing & BOMs: Select components for power distribution, motor circuits, VFDs, and industrial controls; generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Engineering Calculations: Run SCCR (Short-Circuit Current Rating) and thermal/load calculations to match harsh environmental operating conditions.
- Harsh & Hazardous Environments: Design electrical packages suited for rugged outdoor field deployments and hazardous location standards (Class I, Div 1 & 2).
- Production & Shop Floor Support: Partner directly with assembly technicians and panel wiremen to guide builds, resolve layout issues, and assist through commissioning.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in electrical design with an emphasis on UL508A-compliant control panels.
- Proven CAD capability: Demonstrated background drafting electrical schematics and panel layouts.
- Core Electrical Fundamentals: Strong command of electrical theory, branch circuit protection, power distribution, and motor control circuits.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Solid understanding of UL508A, NEC, and NFPA standards.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Work Arrangement: 100% on-site presence at our manufacturing facility in the Greensburg area.
Valued Backgrounds (Not Required, but a Plus)
- Experience with rugged outdoor equipment, telecom power cabinets, or shelter environmental systems.
- Familiarity with Class I, Division 1 & 2 hazardous locations.
- Exposure to industrial communications protocols and PLC integration.
Why Apply?
- Impact: High-visibility technical lead seat on an agile, tight-knit 6-person team.
- Ownership: True cradle-to-grave engineering where your designs are built downstairs on the shop floor, not outsourced across the globe.
