Position Overview

Adjunct Faculty – Part‑time/temporary positions are offered across the San Diego Community College District. Applicants should reside within commuting distance to San Diego. Classes may be held during day, evening, weekend or off‑campus periods.

FLSA Exempt (does not accrue overtime). Position type: Adjunct (part‑time/temporary). Bargaining Unit: AFT/College Faculty. Location: District Wide.

You may view the current salary schedule by clicking here. At the time that an offer of assignment is made, salary placement depends upon receipt of official transcripts and/or foreign degree evaluations. Initial placement will be at the first class/step until transcripts are submitted.

Responsibilities
  • Primary duties of adjunct faculty members are related to curriculum and teaching; the assignment is divided between lecture and lab classes as determined by the department. Adjunct instructional faculty are required to be available to students outside of class.
  • Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
  • Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part‑time/temporary faculty member.
  • Teach all scheduled classes.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Provide quality instruction, create and maintain an environment which emphasizes teaching and learning and encourages free discussion of ideas, interests and issues.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Any Bachelor’s degree AND two (2) years of professional experience directly related to the area of assignment; OR
  • Any Associate degree AND six (6) years of professional experience directly related to the area of assignment; OR
  • Foreign degrees must be evaluated by a professional agency that is a member of NACES or AICE and the evaluation must be submitted during application.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
Desired Qualifications

Foreign degree holders or those whose credentials may not match the above qualifications are encouraged to complete a Request for Equivalency form and attach it during the application process.

Licenses/Certificates/Credentials
  • California Community College Instructor Credential in Electricity (valid for life) – if possessed.

Conditions of Employment
  • Submit official college transcripts as stated on application.
  • Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam required at initial appointment and renewed every four years.
  • Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer at the district’s expense; clearance must be received prior to first day of employment.
  • Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
