The Architect of the Capitol, Superintendent Senate Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent Facilities Operations Division, Electrical Branch, seeks an Electrical Worker to support journeyman electricians in routine electrical tasks.

The position involves shift work, emergency response, and possible holidays/weekends; candidates will learn to diagnose and repair wiring and electrical devices, perform testing, and maintain equipment safely at our DC location.

Summary

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Superintendent Senate Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent Facilities Operations Division, Electrical Branch. The incumbent serves in an Electrical Worker performing routine electrical tasks in support of journeyman Electricians.

Duties

The tour of Duty for this position is : 8:30 p.m. to 6:00.m. , AWS available. The Shift may change at management discretion. This position is essential. The employee is required to report to work during emergencies and inclement weather situations. Tour of duty may include holidays and weekends on a regular or recurring basis. Rotating shift work may also be required at management's discretion. Electrical Installation, Testing, Troubleshooting, and Repair: Assists journeyman electricians with stringing wire through conduit pipes and drilling holes. Uses wire cutters, screwdrivers, saws, electrical testing devices, soldering irons and other tools. Gradually progresses to more complex tasks and learns to diagnose and solve problems while installing and repairing wiring and electrical devices such as lighting control systems. Follows directions and tests electrical systems for continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes to ensure compatibility and safety of system. Receives training and guidance to repair or install equipment such as motors and circuit breakers. Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. Installs wall switches and electrical outlets. Replaces light ballasts and installs lighting fixtures. Helps to assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures using hand tools and power tools Also works on building roof tops over one hundred feet from the ground. Preventive Maintenance: Assists in diagnosing malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. Incumbent must follow all relevant safety rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned.
