Position Summary

The Skilled Group Leader position is responsible for assisting their specialized team by coaching, mentoring, training personnel, department supply management and creating a positive and successful team environment.

Essential Functions
  • Continuously perform all required tasks in a safe manner, adhering to all established safety rules and procedures. Must take immediate action to correct and/or report any unsafe conditions and hazards.
  • Take an active role in caring for the equipment to prevent breakdowns and defects and help increase overall equipment efficiency through 5S, TPM (total productive maintenance), and other Lean Manufacturing initiatives directed by the Sedalia site.
  • The employee will be required to meet satisfactory performance requirements as determined by the Supervisor.
  • Additional responsibilities include good housekeeping and other assignments as directed by the Supervisor.
  • The employee shall be able to work overtime as requested and posted by management.
  • The Skilled Group Leader will be responsible to lead specialized departments for example maintenance, powder paint, rework, etc.
  • A Group Leader shall be capable of operating or maintaining all machines and equipment in his/her department. In addition, the Group Leader will assist in maintaining adequate supplies, materials, training, set-up, and trial runs, within the department. The Group Leader may be required to perform the duties of production in the department.
  • As directed by supervision, aid in controlling working assignments and monitors performance of all responsible associates to assure they meet minimum expectations.
  • The Group Leader shall ensure quality of product and as needed shall inspect the units for conformity to quality standards as established for the department. Inspection is to include paint quality and coverage, component defects and operation of all working parts.
  • Employees in this position are expected to become skilled specialists in specified work centers exercising independent judgment in the field and have a solid understanding of quality expectations. At the request of the Supervisor, Skilled Group Leaders will provide training, evaluate performance, and maintain a positive functioning team within the department. Group Leaders will also assist other team members within a broad range of work centers in a manner that best promotes the success of the Production Group.
  • Performs routine work in all production areas with limited supervision.
  • Proficient or able to grasp and later master specific inventory transactions and processes to aid in the efficient tracking of materials to a job.
  • Provides input for enhancing procedures and processes as part of the production leadership team.
  • Work with area leads or as an area lead with the goal of carrying out tasks with a high-quality level.
  • Work with supervisors and production leadership team to deploy production crew to accomplish daily schedule.
  • Assist in the development of the production team through hands on training, continuous improvement efforts, and day to day interactions.
  • Works on assignments that are moderately difficult requiring judgment in resolving issues or making recommendations that will enhance productivity.
  • Additional responsibilities include good housekeeping and other assignments as directed by the Supervisor.
  • The Group Leader shall be able to work overtime as requested and posted by management.
