Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required or equivalent.
  • Completion of an approved post-secondary electrical program or successful completion of an electrical apprenticeship with license eligibility.
  • Ability to complete 6,000 documented on-the-job training hours within the four-year window.
  • Must meet Iowa licensure requirements and safety standards.
  • Experience in construction, maintenance, or skilled trades preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Install, operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair low voltage electrical systems (<600V).
  • Work on power distribution, switchgear, protection/ control, lighting, battery systems, and motor controls.
  • Determine jobsite sequences, procure materials, and coordinate outages.
  • Interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, logs, and technical docs.
  • Work around medium voltage systems (600V–15kV) under licensed electricians.
  • Restore systems to service and verify proper operation.

What You’ll Do
  • Install, operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair low voltage electrical utility systems operating at less than 600 volts
  • Work on power distribution systems, switchgear, protection and control systems, lighting, battery systems, and motor controls
  • Determine jobsite work sequences and safety procedures, procure materials, and coordinate outages
  • Interpret and maintain wiring diagrams, schematics, system logs, and technical documentation
  • Work around medium voltage utility systems (600V to 15kV) under the direction of licensed High Voltage Electricians
  • Place systems back into service after maintenance and verify proper operation
What You’ll Bring
  • High school diploma or GED
  • One of the following:
    • Completion of an approved Post Secondary Electrical Program (PSEP) resulting in an Associate of Applied Science degree or qualifying electrical diploma
    • Alternatively, successful completion of a U.S. Department of Labor registered electrical apprenticeship program and current eligibility to sit for the Journeyman Electrician licensing exam
  • For candidates entering through the Post Secondary Electrical Program pathway, ability to complete the required 6,000 documented on-the-job training hours within the applicable four-year eligibility period established by the Iowa Electrical Examining Board
  • Ability to meet applicable State of Iowa requirements for Journeyman Electrician licensure
  • Experience in construction, maintenance, or skilled trades is preferred, particularly within utility, power generation, industrial, or similar environments
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, equipment, troubleshooting methods, and industry‑standard tools used in the electrical trade
  • Familiarity with applicable electrical codes, utility standards, safety programs, and safe work practices
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, technical drawings, and repair manuals
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to analyze system issues, maintain accurate documentation, and support effective solutions
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, vendors, contractors, and customers
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and follow oral and written instructions
Required Licenses & Certifications
  • State of Iowa Unclassified Person License
  • Valid driver's license and ability to successfully complete ENGIE's required Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review for operation of company vehicles
Additional Details
  • This is a full-time, on‑site position. You will work directly on campus utility infrastructure alongside experienced electricians
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • This position consists of 30% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions
  • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance
  • Ability to use computers, calculators, and standard business software applications
  • Ability to hear alarms, recognize changes in equipment operating conditions, and communicate using portable radio equipment
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, balance, kneel, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks and work safely in a variety of environments, including confined spaces, elevated work areas, excavations, and outdoor conditions
  • Vision corrected to at least 20/40, with the ability to read instruments, gauges, operating manuals, and technical documentation
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, fall protection equipment, hard hats, safety footwear, eye protection, and other safety equipment as required

Compensation

Hourly Range: $24.38 - $40.58 USD hourly

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
