Job summary

Summary

This position is part of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (the Center). The incumbent will be responsible for performing the electrical work and other diversified duties on complex electrical and electronic systems, electrical equipment, alarm systems, and lighting systems.

Duties

• Estimate project costs and identify appropriate materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Ensure timely, safe, and high-quality completion of assigned electrical projects.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, install, modify, and repair a wide range of electrical and electronic systems and components.
• Maintain and analyze equipment logs to identify inefficiencies and recommend upgrades or energy-saving improvements.
• Collaborate with engineers, consultants, and other stakeholders to design or build systems based on performance requirements and long-term facility needs.

Physical Efforts and Working Conditions

Considerable physical effort is expended to maneuver large equipment into and out of specific locations while dismantling and reassembling. Frequently carries and sets up parts and equipment that weighs up to 75 pounds. Occasionally lifts objects weighing more than 75 pounds to set up work and equipment needed to complete tasks. Hoists, holders, and pulleys are operated when removing units such as large motors, compressors, condensers, chillers, switchboards, and transformers. Necessary repairs and installations may be made from ladders, scaffolding, lifts and platforms where the parts of systems worked are frequently in hard-to-reach places requiring stooping, stretching, bending, and kneeling for extended periods of time. Incumbent climbs ladders and must be able to climb stair towers greater than 100 feet. Accessing work sites often requires walking more than three miles throughout the day and stepping over objects. Incumbent works in confined areas such as attics, near ceilings, in utility corridors, etc. Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, platforms and under floors and crawlspaces and where the systems and equipment worked are hard-to-reach. Is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Incumbent works from various heights on ladders, lifts, and scaffolding. Duties are performed both inside and outside in weather conditions varying from hot, humid summer heat to below freezing winter temperatures. Incumbent exposed to serious injury when working on energized circuits, adjacent to operating equipment, or from various heights. May be exposed to burns, cuts, bruises, smoke and fumes, flying particles when grinding or cutting, and may suffer discomfort when wearing hoods, goggles, and other personal protective equipment (PPE). Subject to electric shock and falls from ladders; injury from lifting and handling heavy materials and equipment; discomfort from noise, fumes; and vibrations of equipment. When working along the roadway conditions exist where there is a very high volume of traffic and traffic speeds exceed 55 MPH. This poses immediate danger and requires the employee to be constantly alert.
