Job summary

Metra in Chicago is seeking a Journeyman Electrician to maintain electrical equipment on diesel/electric locomotives, self-propelled coaches and passenger railcars. You will work on propulsion systems, electronic controls, lighting, generators, battery charging, CAB signals, heating and cooling, and industrial wiring.

The role requires reading schematic drawings and being available for all shifts across the six-county metro area.

Qualifications

• Journeyman Electrician or 4+ years of experience on similar equipment.
• Ability to read schematic drawings.
• Willing to work all shifts across the six-county metro area.

Responsibilities

• Maintain electrical equipment on diesel/electric locomotives, self-propelled coaches, and railcars including propulsion systems, controls, lighting, generators, battery charging, CAB signals, HVAC, and wiring.
• Ensure compliance with safety rules and foster a safe work environment.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Salary Range

$40.26 - $40.92

Description

This position maintains electrical equipment on diesel/electric locomotives, self-propelled coaches and passenger railcars including propulsion systems, electronic controls, lighting, generators, battery charging systems, CAB signal systems, heating and air conditioning systems, and industrial wiring.

Responsible for the safety objectives, goals, and program of the organization, ensuring compliance with applicable safety rules and regulations. Promotes safe work practices as well as maintains and fosters a safe work environment.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

This is a Union position. Starting pay rates may vary based on entry rates in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Requirements

1. The selected candidate will be a Journeyman Electrician or possess a minimum of four years of experience working on similar equipment.


2. Must be able to read schematic drawings.


3. Must be available to work all shifts and work at various locations in the six county metropolitan area.
