Job summary

Metra is seeking a Journeyman Electrician to maintain electrical equipment on diesel/electric locomotives, railcars and related systems across several sites in the Chicago area. The role requires a minimum of four years of experience on similar equipment and the ability to read schematic drawings.

The position is unionized and requires availability for all shifts across the six-county metropolitan area, with starting pay rates varying by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

• Ability to read schematic drawings is required.
• Must be available to work all shifts and at multiple locations within the six-county metropolitan area.

Responsibilities

• Maintains electrical equipment on diesel/electric locomotives, self-propelled coaches and railcars including propulsion, controls, lighting, generators and wiring.
• Ensures safety objectives and program compliance; promotes safe work practices and a safe work environment.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

This position maintains electrical equipmenton diesel/electric locomotives, self-propelled coaches and passenger railcars including propulsion systems, electronic controls, lighting, generators, battery charging systems, CAB signal systems, heating and air conditioning systems, and industrial wiring.

Responsible for the safety objectives, goals, and program of the organization, ensuring compliance with applicable safety rules and regulations.Promotes safe work practices as well as maintains and fosters a safe work environment.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

This is a Union position. Starting pay rates may vary based on entry rates in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
