Job Title: Electrician
Perform skilled work in maintenance, repair, and construction of lighting, power, and control electrical systems in a responsible and accurate manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- A standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
- Satisfactory completion of the Broward County School District's Electrician Apprenticeship Program.
Or
- A standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
- Six (6) years of recent, professionally paid electrical work experience. Possession of current valid Broward County or State of Florida certification as an electrician, or the ability to pass the Florida State Certification Exam prior to being placed on permanent status.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to interpret construction drawings or sketches; estimate materials, supplies, and labor costs.
- Proficiency in using all power and hand tools associated with the trade, performing tasks independently.
- Thorough knowledge of electricity, circuits, and appropriate materials for each job.
- Knowledge of standard electrical code requirements.
- Possession of a current certificate of competence.
- Ability to work safely from ladders and scaffolding.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Effective teamwork skills.
- Own hand tools required.
- Ability to assume responsibility and complete repairs or tasks independently.
- Valid Florida driver's license; Commercial Driver’s License with endorsements if required for specific duties.
- Willingness to respond to emergency calls at any time.
- Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing required.
- Computer skills relevant to the position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits are aligned with the District's approved compensation plan. Work hours and the length of the work year are set by the School Board.
Note: New hires will be paid at the minimum of the salary range.
