Job summary

Thompson Construction Group, Inc. seeks a skilled journeyman electrician to plan, install and repair wiring, conduits, and control equipment per blueprints.

You will read electrical drawings, install and terminate wiring, and coordinate with site teams to complete planned outages safely. Qualifications include journeyman-level industrial electrical experience, conduit work, and experience with motors and instrumentation wiring.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Read drawings and diagrams; identify field conflicts.
  • Install conduit, cable tray, pull, terminate, and dress wiring.
  • Connect components in HPU and control systems.
  • Perform continuity and insulation resistance tests; support startup and punch lists.
  • Document field changes and provide progress updates.
  • Follow safety rules and coordinate testing.
  • Work with other trades and vendors to complete outages safely.
  • Follow blueprints to ensure wiring is installed before walls.

Position Description

Plan the layout, install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment according to customer specifications and blueprints by performing the following duties in a safe and timely manner.

Job Responsibilities
  • Read electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and equipment instructions; identify field conflicts and
  • communicate them promptly.
  • Install conduit, cable tray or supports as assigned; pull, label, terminate, and dress power and control wiring.
  • Connect governor hydraulic power unit (HPU) components, motors, starters, panels, instruments, and related BoP equipment within the assigned scope.
  • Perform continuity, insulation resistance, and point-to-point checks as directed; support loop checks, functional testing, startup, and punch-list completion.
  • Document field changes and test results, and provide daily progress updates to the site lead.
  • Follow site safety rules, lockout/tagout, energized-work controls, and applicable electrical requirements. Coordinate isolations and testing with authorized site personnel.
  • Work with other trades, the owner, and equipment vendors to complete planned outage activities safely and on schedule.
  • Plan installations to minimize waste, provide future access and avoid unsightly, hazardous and unreliable wiring consistent with code.
  • Follow blueprints, ensuring that wiring is installed before walls, ceilings or floors are completed.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread and assemble conduit using hacksaw, pipe threader and conduit bender, assisted by Electrician Helper.
  • Pull wiring through conduit, splices wire by stripping leads of insulation then twisting or soldering wires together and applying tape or terminal caps.
  • Connect wiring to lighting, power equipment, switch boxes, relays and breaker panels.
  • Connect power cables to electric motors or pumps and install grounding leads.
  • Install control and distribute apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels, fastening in place with screws or bolts, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Connect power cables to equipment, such as an electric range or motor, and install grounding leads.
  • Test continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using testing instruments, such as an ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and an oscilloscope.
  • Observe the operation of installed equipment or systems to detect hazards and the need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
Job Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Journeyman-level industrial electrical experience, including conduit work, cable pulling, terminations, and troubleshooting from drawings.
  • Experience with motors, motor controls, control panels, and instrumentation wiring.
  • Ability to use electrical test equipment safely and accurately.
  • Experience in power generation, hydroelectric facilities, industrial plants, or governor/HPU systems is preferred.
  • Ability to meet site access and safety requirements, report reliably to assigned sites, and travel to future projects.
  • Must have completed Construction Electrician Course at a technical or trade school with at least 1 year of experience in the field or a minimum of 3 years of experience working as an Electrician Helper in the field.
  • In some cases, the Electrician may be required to have state or local certifications.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly with supervisor/co-workers and understand direction from supervisor and welder.
  • Utilize basic math and a calculator, read tape measure and understand the operation and usage of a voltmeter/multimeter.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively, operate moving equipment and work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments.
  • Candidate may be required to pass a drug test and criminal background check based on job location/requirements.
