Job summary

Thompson Construction Group, Inc. is seeking an Electrician Helper to plan, install, and repair wiring and electrical fixtures per customer specifications and blueprints, with emphasis on safety and efficiency.

The company supports professional growth and a strong on-site culture. This position requires following blueprints, pulling wires, assembling conduit, wiring to panels and motors, testing circuits, and using a range of hand and power tools on active job sites.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have completed Construction Electrician Course at a technical or trade school with at least 1 year of experience in the field or a minimum of 3 years of experience working as an Electrician Helper in the field.
  • In some cases, the Electrician may be required to have state or local certifications.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly with supervisor/co-workers and understand direction from supervisor and welder.
  • Utilize basic math and a calculator, read tape measure and understand the operation and usage of a voltmeter/multimeter.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively, operate moving equipment and work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments.
  • Candidate may be required to pass a drug test and criminal background check based on job location/requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Plan installations to minimize waste, provide future access and avoid hazardous wiring consistent with code.
  • Follow blueprints, ensuring wiring is installed before walls, ceilings or floors are completed.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread and assemble conduit using hacksaw, pipe threader and conduit bender, assisted by Electrician Helper.
  • Pull wiring through conduit, splices wire by stripping leads of insulation then twisting or soldering wires together and applying tape or terminal caps.
  • Connect wiring to lighting, power equipment, switch boxes, relays and breaker panels.
  • Connect power cables to electric motors or pumps and install grounding leads.
  • Install control and distribute apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels, fastening in place with screws or bolts, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Connect power cables to equipment, such as an electric range or motor, and install grounding leads.
  • Test continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using testing instruments, such as an ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and an oscilloscope.
  • Observe the operation of installed equipment or systems to detect hazards and the need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Plan the layout, install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment according to customer specifications and blueprints by performing the following duties in a safe and timely manner.
