Job summary

The College of Southern Maryland seeks an Electrician Assistant to support the Electrician and Facilities team at the La Plata campus. You will assist with installation, repair, assessment, and maintenance of electrical components across campus infrastructure, from lighting to switchgear and control systems.

Responsibilities include aiding with new construction and projects, reading blueprints, performing inspections, testing equipment, maintaining tool inventories, and ensuring a safe work

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of three years in the electrical industry with knowledge of electrical components and safety.
• Ability to read electrical blueprints and follow NEC requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist electrician with day-to-day electrical needs across campus.
• Maintain interior and exterior lighting systems on the La Plata Campus.
• Perform code-required inspections of emergency lighting systems and routine functionality.
• Assist with testing electrical equipment and diagnosing problems.
• Maintain inventory of lamps, ballasts, and other consumables.
• Assist in installing raceways, boxes, and wires; ensure safe workspace.
• Report findings to supervisor and support other trades as needed.
