Job summary

Trident Seafoods in Alaska is seeking an Electrician Apprentice – Project Support to learn under a Journeyman Electrician and assist with wiring, installation, and maintenance of machines and equipment.

You will gain hands-on experience with power wiring, conduit installation, and diagnosing electrical components while completing AVTEC apprenticeship requirements. A safety-focused, team-oriented mindset is essential in a loud, outdoor work environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning layout of wiring and installing wiring and electrical apparatus.
• Maintain apprenticeship hours and complete assignments with AVTEC training.

Responsibilities

The Electrician Apprentice – Project Support will work under the supervision and instruction of a Journeyman Electrician to learn, assist, and perform the duties of an Electrician as follows.

Essential Functions: (Responsibilities, Tasks, Supervisory Needs)

• Assist with installation of power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers.
• Assist with connecting power supply wires to machines and equipment and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
• Assist in diagnosing malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replace damaged or broken wires and cables.
• Assist with replacing faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, and motors, analog level sensors and temperature probes.
• Assist with planning layout of wiring and installing wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.
• Assist with inspecting electrical systems, diagnosing and replacing faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
• Maintain hours reporting forms as required by the Federal Apprenticeship Administration. Maintain grades and complete assignments with our apprenticeship school AVTEC.
• Knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.
• Maintain a current Electrical Trainee card with the State of Alaska Department of Labor.
• Understand and able to implement safe work procedures.
• Maintains a clean working environment and understands the importance of general housekeeping.
• Willing and able to perform maintenance operations outside of their assigned roles when available and trained to do so.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: (Education, Years of Experience, Certifications)

• Minimum of 2 years’ general work experience.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Education & Experiences

• 3 years’ general work experience.
• 6 months experience in a maintenance or construction setting or equivalent mechanical background.
• Experience in agriculture, manufacturing, food processing, industrial operations, or related environments.

Skills

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

• Proficient in MS Office products preferred.
• Knowledge of and ability to use standard industry hand and power tools.
• Proficient in basic arithmetic.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to supervisor and other employees of the organization.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Work Environment (includes Travel/on-call)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to understand English, and utilize teamwork skills. The employee is frequently required to speak English, and use decision making skills.
