Job description

The Electrician C combines knowledge of mechanical technology with knowledge of electrical and electronic circuits to install, repair and maintain electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Install, set‑up, maintain, modify and repair all electrical distribution systems and associated electrical equipment.
  • Remain in compliance with current National Electric Code.
  • Inspect and test components of electrical systems, including transformers, transfer switches and switch gears.
  • Install, operate, maintain, test and troubleshoot all types of electrical utilities and production equipment, including lubrication and periodic servicing.
  • Run computer cables, connect computer jacks and plugs and test for adequate operations.
  • Connect power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connect cables and wires between machines and equipment, following instructions from manuals, schematic diagrams and blueprints requiring the use of hand tools and test equipment.
  • Detect malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors and lighting fixtures using test equipment, and replace damaged or broken wires and cables using hand tools.
  • Replace faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches and motors and position‑sensing devices, using hand tools; replace electric motor bearings and rewire motors.
  • Diagnose and repair or replace faulty electronic components such as printed circuit boards using electronic test equipment and hand tools.
  • Possess and use knowledge of plant electrical distribution system and power requirements.
  • Utilize blueprints, wiring diagrams and manufacturer’s installation manuals to complete assigned projects.
  • Install power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment, such as robots, conveyor and programmable controllers, adhering to electrical code and blueprints.
  • May plan layout of wiring and install wiring, conduit and electrical apparatus in buildings.
  • May diagnose and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Works within company guidelines and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or recognized equivalent.
  • Four (4) years of electrical experience with some mechanical experience and strong knowledge of electrical codes.
  • May be required to hold an electrician’s license.
COMPUTER SKILLS

Some computer skills preferred, MS Office and knowledge of programmable controls.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read manuals, schematic diagrams and blueprints pertaining to electrical components and equipment; ability to read and follow technical instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, policy and procedures; and ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Adequate sight, hearing and use of limbs to safely operate all powered vehicles as needed.
  • Sight capabilities to distinguish proper product identification and warning indicators.
  • Hearing capabilities to distinguish differences in warning alarm indicators and standard operation indicators.
  • Sight capabilities to identify accuracy and neatness of required job assignments.
  • Stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling capabilities to handle job requirements.
  • Balancing to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching in all areas to inspect products and raw materials.
  • Ability to verbally communicate face to face or via telephone with other employees to accomplish all assigned job requirements.
  • Hear and understand all verbal communication whether face to face or telephone.
  • See and understand all written communication.
  • Climb and descend all ladders or steps whether fixed or portable on company facilities to inspect pipe and raw materials.
  • Walking through, under and around equipment with a clearance of 30".
  • Ability to grasp tools (manual as well as powered) and use them in accordance with a safe working manner so as not to injure yourself or fellow employees.
  • Sight capability to safely operate at arm’s length machinery and power and/or hand tools needed to accomplish the requirement of the job assignments for this position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Inside and outside environments apply.
  • Subject to extreme cold, temperatures below 32°F for periods of more than one hour.
  • Subject to extreme heat, temperatures above 100°F for periods of more than one hour.
  • Subject to noise, requiring a higher volume to be heard above the noise level.
  • Subject to vibration, exposure to fluctuating movements of the body.
  • Subject to hazards such as moving machinery, electrical currents, falling debris, exposure to chemicals, gases, high heat, or explosives; subject to unregulated atmospheric conditions in odors, fumes, gases, poor ventilation, and dusts; subject to oils and other cutting fluids.
