Job summary

Missouri Botanical Garden is seeking an Electrician to maintain and install electrical distribution systems across all buildings and assets. The role supports safety, energy management, and event electrical services for weddings, concerts, and festivals.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years of electrical experience and NEC knowledge, with ability to read drawings and coordinate with contractors. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years' experience in electrical work and knowledge of the National Electrical Code.

• Knowledge of safety rules related to working around electricity (lockout/tag out).

Responsibilities

• Installs and maintains electrical systems up to 600V for lighting, HVAC, telecom, and security systems.
• Performs preventative maintenance on electrical equipment and emergency generators.
• Installs temporary electrical services for events (weddings, concerts, exhibits, festivals).
• Troubleshoots and repairs electrical hardware, cabling, and conduits.
• Coordinates with Garden staff and contractors during renovations and new construction.
• Maintains records and drawings of underground utilities and locates buried utilities.

Summary:

The Electricianmaintains all electrical distribution systems and individual circuits in all buildings, structures, and assets, both interior and exterior.This role is involved with the maintenance and construction of Garden wide communication, safety and security, and energy management systems. They also provide temporary electrical service for special events, including weddings, concerts, exhibits, festivals and displays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Installs andmaintainselectrical and electrically controlled systems up to 600v for lighting, computers, HVAC, telephone, fountains,irrigation,fireand security systems.
• Performs preventative maintenanceon various pieces of electrical equipment,circuitsand systems including emergencylighting andgenerator systems.
• Installs temporaryelectricalservicesforspecial eventsincluding weddings, concerts, exhibits,festivals,and displays.
• Troubleshoots, repairs, and installs hardware and cabling for telephones and computers;installsvarious typesand sizes of conduit and raceways.
• Works with contractors and/orGarden staff during office renovations and new construction projects.
• Creates andmaintainsdetailed records and drawings of all underground electrical utilities andlocatesburied utilities on a regular basis.
• Maintains inventory of electrical supplies and light bulbs.
• Identifiesandinitiatesimmediatecorrective actions forany electrical code, NEC,or safetyviolation andassistsDirector, MaintenanceOperationsintraining ofGarden staff.
• Determinesthebestcourse of action to make repairs.Sets and/oradjustspriorities to ensure safety and reliability of electrical distribution systems or individual circuits and devices.Factors taken into consideration when making these decisionsinclude:cost of materials and availability, longevity of repairs, scheduling safety while performing workaround staff and visitorsand resource conservation and green purchasing.
• Ensures that all applicable safety standards are followed: informs employees/students/volunteers of safety guidelines and safe working practices and routinelymonitorsto enforce them.
• May berequiredto service and program card access systems controlling doors and vehicle gates and program those systems via the Building Automation System.
• Adapts ormodifieswork methods to reduce hazards.
• Reports all accidents,injuriesand near-miss accidentsimmediately.
• May be asked to perform other tasks not solely related to making electrical repairs or new installations.

Qualifications/Experience:

• Minimum of two(2)years related apprenticeship technical background.
• Minimum of five(5)years' experiencein electrical work, and knowledge ofNationalElectrical Code.
• Knowledgeof the National Electrical Codeand a willingness to keep up with changes in the code and industry practices.
• Knowledge of safety rules related to working around electricity: (lockout/ tag out).
• Knowledge of the construction methods of historic and contemporary building and structures preferred.
• Must be able to read electrical drawings and keepaccuraterecords.
• Ability to work at varying heights both indoors and out andoperatevarious typesof lift equipment.
• Ability to work independently with little instruction; coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks, set deadlines, and complete projectsin a timely manner.

Electrical license preferred, but not required.

Physical Demands:

Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (i.e., in temperatures over 100°F as well as temperatures below 0°F, in rain, snow and other inclement weather conditions as needed).
