Marathon Petroleum's Illinois Refining Division is seeking qualified applicants to fill full-time Electrician positions at our Robinson, Illinois Refinery. Electricians will support refinery operations through properly maintaining refinery electrical systems. This allows for safe, compliant, and reliable refinery operations to support the refinery's strategic business goals. This position will be on a Monday - Thursday 10-hour a day schedule.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Uses various tools and equipment to effectively troubleshoot/repair/install/commission electrical systems.
- Reviews drawings/specifications/manuals/instruction sheets/etc.
- Reviews and follows all applicable procedures (i.e., Electrical Safe Work Practices Program).
- Adheres to all safety rules and regulations including always following proper personal protective equipment requirements.
- Performs preventative maintenance on electrical equipment as required by Marathon or industry standards.
- Installs conduit/wiring/cable tray/motors/transformers/etc.
- Troubleshoots motor control circuits using test instruments such as voltmeters/ammeters/meggers/etc.
- Troubleshoots electric actuators using laptop computers/software/test instruments.
- Performs work on low voltage ( Maintains accurate records of work performed, including completing daily time confirmations, work orders closure comments, material requests, etc.
- Communicates effectively with co-workers, supervisors, customers, vendors, etc. both verbally and in writing.
- Acquires (within 1 year of employment) a CDL
MINIMUM (REQUIRED) QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must pass a pre-employment written test and hands‑on craft test.
- Associate's degree/certification in related field OR Minimum of two years of electrical experience.
- Successfully complete a rigorous pre-employment assessment process, drug/alcohol/medical screenings, and a background check. To ensure safe operations, new hires must also participate in random drug and alcohol screenings.
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery and be able to physically perform all essential job tasks in the field.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be able to pass a motor vehicle records check.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a full‑time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in a refinery, petrochemical, or other industrial setting.
- Experience with SAP and Microsoft Office
- Experience working on large synchronous motors
- Experience trouble shooting electric motor control circuits
- Experience working on high voltage systems
SKILLS
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Knowledge of regulatory and industry requirements including but not limited to Process Safety Management (PSM), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), American Petroleum Institute (API), National Electrical Code (NEC), Environmental Standards and other applicable regulations.
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting abilities on individual devices and systems.
- Ability to read blueprints/schematics/electrical diagrams
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work performed at ground level and at heights on concrete, metal grating, gravel, asphalt, and piping surfaces, while climbing over 75 feet, lifting 40 pounds plus, carrying 10-20 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 250 pounds with mechanical assistance and working in confined spaces, wearing proper safety equipment, including self‑contained breathing apparatus as necessary, use hand tools, and work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
SCHEDULE
Employees work a 10-hour a day Monday-Thursday schedule, with overtime and some weekend work as needed.
PAY AND BENEFITS
Starting Pay rate minimum: $39.13, with rates progressing to a top pay of $54.70. Starting rates will be determined based on review of experience and qualifications.
