Job summary

Racine County is seeking a Journeyman Electrician to perform maintenance, repair, and installation on electrical equipment for county buildings. You will troubleshoot lighting, motors, distribution, and DDC controls, and support fire/security systems and door controls.

The role requires 3–5 years as a Journeyman Electrician in commercial settings, plus foreman experience or equivalent, with attendance and willingness to obtain required Racine certifications. Some after-hours work may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with one year of post-high school coursework.
  • Current Wisconsin Journeyman electrician's card.
  • 3–5 years as a Journeyman Electrician, with emphasis on commercial building electrical systems (DDC controls, fire/security controls, door controls, drives).
  • 3–5 years as a foreman in the trades, or equivalent overall experience.
  • Ability to obtain City of Racine Supervising Electrician Certification within 60 days if required.
  • Prompt and regular attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and install lighting, motors, power distribution and DDC equipment.
  • Maintain and repair fire alarm and security alarm systems and building automation equipment.
  • Conduct monthly emergency generator tests and perform minor maintenance at remote sites.
  • Repair electrical components, doors, and related security equipment; replace equipment as needed.
  • Test and repair the Court's security alarm system as required.
  • Assist electrical contractors or vendors on site when needed.
  • Review electrical and control schematics and drawings.
  • Support other divisions with electrical needs as directed.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies as requested.
  • Demonstrate initiative, detail-orientation, and stewardship in maintaining county buildings.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Job description

To perform work in the maintenance, repair, and installation of various types of electrical equipment related to Racine County buildings.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Troubleshoot, maintain, repair and install new lighting, motors, power distribution and DDC equipment.
  2. Troubleshoot, maintain and repair fire alarm systems, security alarm systems and various other building related automation control equipment.
  3. Conduct monthly emergency generator tests at assigned buildings. As directed inspect test and perform minor maintenance on emergency generating equipment at remote sites.
  4. Troubleshoot and repair electrical components, electric doors, and cell doors. As necessary replace security system equipment, components, door control touch screen monitors, power supplies etc.
  5. Test and repair Court's security alarm system as needed.
  6. As necessary provide additional help to electrical contractors and/or control vendors who may be on site working and/or upgrading equipment.
  7. Able to review and clearly understand electrical and control schematics and drawings
  8. As necessary and directed assist other divisions and/or department with electrical needs as authorized.
  9. Able to respond to after hour emergencies as requested.
  10. Must be a self-thinker, self-starter and motivated.
  11. Must be detail oriented and take initiative and stewardship in properly maintaining the county buildings.
  12. All other job duties as assigned.
Supervision Received

Receives supervision and direction from the Facilities Manager.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and one year of post high school education at an accredited school.
  • Current Wisconsin Journeyman's electrician's card.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years experience as a Journeyman Electrician with an emphases in commercial building electrical systems.
    • This includes but is not limited to: DDC Building Automation HVAC Controls, Honeywell EBI Fire / Security Controls, Security Door Control systems and frequency drives.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years working as a foreman within the trades.
    • In lieu of, will consider work overall experience.
  • If required at a future date, be able to obtain within 60 days of hire a City of Racine Supervising Electrician Certification.
  • Prompt and regular attendance.
Physical Qualifications
  • Continuous (67-100% of workday) standing, lifting, carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 1-10 pounds, light handling and light to medium fingering.
  • Frequent (34-66% of workday) climbing, ascending/descending ladders while carrying objects, hearing, use of near and far vision, bending/twisting, lifting and carrying objects weighing 11-20 pounds, pushing/pulling objects weighing 11-20 pounds, and medium handling.
  • Occasional (1-33% of workday) walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, balancing, reaching, feeling, talking, lifting, and carrying objects weighing 21-50 pounds, and pushing/pulling objects weighing 41-80 pounds on wheels, and high handling and fingering.
Working Conditions
  • Continuous (67-100% of workday) inside work, exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards.
  • Frequent (34-66% of workday) heights above 12 feet from a ladder.
  • Occasional (1-33% of workday) exposure to noise and vibrations, chemical and burn hazards, exposure to dust and physically confined workspaces.
Equipment Used

Measuring and metering devices , hand tools, corded /cordless power tools, automobile, truck, breathing apparatus and personal protection equipment.
