Job description

Overview

The Electrician position is part of the Department of Public Works (DPW). The Electricians install, repair and troubleshoot electrical control systems and equipment around the City of Racine, including maintaining street lights and signalized intersections. They perform work within the City\'s core buildings, including City Hall, the Safety Building, City Hall Annex, and Memorial Hall.

Responsibilities

• Install and repair electrical fixtures, traffic signals, street lighting equipment, control panels, timers and assorted electrical equipment including electronic controls.
• Maintain electrical systems for City bridges and buildings under the jurisdiction of the DPW. Perform work on the City\'s core buildings (City Hall, Safety Building, City Hall Annex, Memorial Hall).
• Plan new or modified installations to minimize power problems and ensure consistency with specifications and local electrical codes.
• Perform repair and replacement duties using blueprints and electrical drawings.
• Connect power cables to equipment, lighting fixtures, and electrical motors. Test continuity of circuitry to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of all components using standardized instruments.
• Troubleshoot problem areas to repair faulty equipment or systems.
• Maintain a consistent and reliable attendance pattern.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Work in all outside weather conditions and, when required, on stepladders, extension ladders and aerial trucks; operate in areas with high voltage gear and equipment.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Master or Journeyman electrician status with five years of progressive installation and repair experience required.
• Valid Wisconsin Class A Commercial Driver\'s License or ability to obtain within three months.
• Must live within thirty minutes of any point within the City of Racine to respond to on-call duty.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of installing, repairing, and maintaining power sources, equipment and electrical accessories; ability to solve problems with minimal supervision; ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; ability to communicate effectively and exercise good judgment; ability to operate and work from an aerial truck.
• Special Requirements: Availability for twenty-four hour on-call duty including weekends and holidays for a week at a time.
