The ACAA’s Electrician installs, repairs, maintains and modifies all lighting and power circuits, fixtures, controls, motors, pumps and equipment that is operated from all voltage levels.
Responsibilities
- Plan new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
- Prepare sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follow diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring.
- Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit.
- Splice wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
- Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
- Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit‑breaker panels.
- Connect power cables to electrical equipment, lighting equipment motors, and install grounding leads.
- Test continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, amp meter, and megger.
- Observe functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
- Repair faulty equipment or systems.
- Re‑lamp & repair runway lighting fixtures and repair or replace wiring circuits.
- Bucket truck work: re‑laming and repairing pole lighting.
- Work safely and abide by all ACAA safety guidelines.
- Develop or participate in job safety analysis procedures.
- Troubleshoot and splice high‑voltage repairs and/or installations.
- Adhere to ACAA guidelines set forth by the Dress Code and Personal Protective Equipment policy.
- Provide small hand tools necessary for the trade.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned or required.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Five years’ experience as a journeyman electrician.
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the craft or equivalent training at an accredited trade or technical school, or military training.
- Current, valid Pennsylvania Class C driver’s license or ability to obtain the same.
We also expect that candidates will demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Considerable knowledge in the practices, methods, tools and materials of the electrical trade.
- Knowledge in occupational hazards and techniques of safety precautions and injury prevention programs.
- Considerable ability to work according to standard practices, using the tools, materials and equipment of the trade.
- Ability to use basic technology devices such as iPads and smart phones.
- Ability to work well with others.
Physical Demands
Employee regularly uses hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Frequently stands, walks, climbs or balances, and stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. Occasional sitting and tasting or smelling. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 50 pounds.
Conditions of Work
Work near moving mechanical parts, in high, precarious places and outside weather conditions, with exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Occasionally exposed to extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. Noise level is usually very loud. May be assigned to work 7‑3, 3‑11, and 11‑7 shifts, seven days a week including holidays. Subject to remain on duty beyond assigned working hours to provide assistance during extenuating circumstances.
Pre‑employment Requirements
- Employment contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by an examining physician.
- Employment contingent upon the results of a post‑offer drug screening. Continued employment may be subject to drug and alcohol testing conducted without advance notice.
- Ability to pass a thorough background investigation, including criminal history check, verification of prior employment and performance, reference and credential checks, and in some cases credit history.
