Qualifications

Job Summary

Reporting to the Trades Manager, the Electrician B safely performs tasks of moderate to high complexity within the maintenance specialty related to the interior and selected exterior electrical systems of the College including all interior and exterior lighting.

Job Duties

• 50% - Uses a variety of hand tools (e.g. wrench, pliers, screwdriver), power hand tools (e.g. drill, buffer), specialized power tools (e.g. wire puller), and instruments (e.g. am probe, circuit tester and ohmmeters) to safely perform all the basic duties related to maintenance, repair, alteration and installation of interior and selected exterior electrical tasks including lighting. Includes 24v, 120v, 208v, 220v, 277v, and 480v circuits. Excludes any hands-on work on systems with voltages higher than 480v. Basic duties include; responding to electrical trouble calls via CMMS, changing out and installing lighting fixtures and lamps for fixtures, replacing outlets and switches, installing new breakers and circuits, performing preventive maintenance, reading schematics and blueprints, and drawing simple circuits. In partnership with HVAC technicians, may install control units for energy management systems (EMS). - (Essential)
• 40% - Works with outside contractors as needed, including EMS (energy management system) contractors, to integrate campus electrical systems into the EMS. Partners with HVAC technicians to install control units for energy management control systems (EMCS). Identifies unsafe electrical panels and conditions on campus. Troubleshoots, analyzes, and installs systems involving campus feeders, electrical panels, transformers, oil-filled switches, air switches, and emergency generators. Pulls new distribution cables and conduits and replaces existing ones as needed and installs electrical support for energy control devices. Follows internal campus lockout/tagout procedures. - (Essential)
• 10% - Requires little to no guidance and direction on technical issues. Keeps track of own labor, materials, and supplies used and report these accurately. Receives specific instructions from Electrician A as to work assignments, quantity, and quality of work expectations. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED. Certificate(s) of technical training.
• Four years of progressively responsible experience in the electrical trades such as installing, maintaining and repairing electrical power, communications, lightning, and control systems and LED.
• Experience reading blueprints for the trade.
• Demonstrated ability to safely use hand tools (wrench, pliers, screwdriver), power tools (drill, buffer), specialized tools (wire puller), and test instruments (amprobe, circuit tester, ohmmeter) to perform maintenance, repair, alteration, and installation of interior and select exterior electrical systems, including lighting.
• Work covers 24v, 120v, 208v, 220v, 277v, and 480v circuits; hands-on work on systems above 480v is excluded.
• Demonstrated skill in reading schematics and blueprints, drawing simple circuits, replacing outlets and switches, installing and replacing light fixtures and lamps, installing new breakers and circuits, responding to outage calls, and completing preventive maintenance work orders.
• Knowledge of high-voltage distribution systems, including their installation, repair, and maintenance requirements.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Forms), or comparable productivity tools relevant to the position.
• Detail-oriented and thorough, with strong ability to anticipate and prevent problems, manage varied tasks efficiently and accurately, and maintain a high standard of work quality. Strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.

EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $33.76/hr
