Job summary

Commercial Vehicle Group, Inc (CVG) seeks an Electrical Technician to troubleshoot, repair, and improve equipment in a manufacturing environment, managing safety, scheduling, and training from problem identification through completion.

Responsibilities include leading by example, supporting process improvements, reading electrical schematics, programming PLCs, coordinating fabrication, and ensuring compliance with NEC, NFPA and OSHA codes. A 5-year experience and associate degree are required.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in electrical technology or related field.
  • At least five years of relevant electrical technician experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience with consumer-packaged goods or lean manufacturing is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example with a positive attitude and effective communication between shifts and personnel.
  • Assist in improving process efficiencies through automation, simplification, and elimination of non-value-added activities.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems to identify root causes of downtime and implement fixes.
  • Provide PLC troubleshooting assistance and interface with machine controls.
  • Coordinate fabrication and installation to meet manufacturing and GMP requirements.
  • Maintain electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and related documentation.
  • Read and interpret electrical/mechanical schematics and prints.

Job description

Position Summary

Troubleshoot, repair, and improve equipment. Work independently from problem identification through completion to ensure successful implementation and start-up. Manage all safety, scheduling, and training aspects of repairs, projects, and troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead by example and demonstrate respect to others with a positive and supportive attitude.
  • Responsible for maintaining value-added communication between shifts within the department and other pertinent personnel
  • Assists in the effort to continuously improve process efficiencies through implementation of new automated technology, simplification and the elimination of barriers, and non-value-added activities
  • Achieve service excellence, meet, and exceed organizational objectives and support fiscal responsibility
  • Must always understand and demonstrate safe work practices to ensure a safe work environment
  • Assist production areas with mechanical and electrical equipment troubleshooting and finding root-cause for reoccurring downtime
  • Provide trouble-shooting assistance for equipment PLC programs
  • Integrate new components or systems such as instruments, controls, machines, and mechanical or electrical systems
  • Coordinate fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to manufacturing requirements and GMP
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures
  • Research products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software to solve operational issues and draft purchase requests
  • Maintain project and equipment files including as-built drawings, PLC programs and spare parts documentation
  • Plan the fabrication of panels and equipment for systems improvements.
  • Maintain and install all electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Other duties may be assigned
Education and Experience
  • Associate degree in electrical technology or related field
  • At least five (5) years' relevant electrical technician experience in manufacturing
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in consumer-packaged goods or lean manufacturing
Skills and Competencies
  • Strong communication skills
  • Capable of interpreting and applying NEC, NFPA, and OSHA codes
  • Familiarity with NEC, NEMA, NFPA, and OSHA code compliance
  • Familiar with 3 phase electrical power applications
  • Experience with RS500, Rs5000, and Siemens Control PLC programming
  • Experience with basic shop equipment (drill press, band saw, chop saw, mill, etc.)
  • Above average mechanical skills
  • Experience running EMT and rigid conduit
  • Demonstrated ability with PLC trouble shooting, interface, and basic programming skills
  • Ability to be a team player and effectively collaborate with different functional groups and customers
  • Must be detail oriented with strong organization skills
  • Demonstrated project management skills required
  • Experience with computer use specifically in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD preferred.
  • Must be results oriented with strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics and prints
Working Conditions
  • 90% Manufacturing/Warehouse and 10% Office Environment
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs, bend, stand for long periods as necessary
  • Must be able to wear PPE as required including (but not limited to) Steel Toed shoes, hearing, hand and eye protective wear
  • Must be able to work in a safe manner around other people and equipment
