Job summary

Capital University is seeking an experienced Electrician to support the Director of Facilities Management in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems across campus facilities.

The role requires at least five years in commercial/residential service, the ability to read blueprints, and a solid working knowledge of the NEC. Overtime and emergency response may be required, with coordination of external contractors on larger projects to ensure safe, reliable campus power systems.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, and test electrical lighting, circuits, and equipment in commercial and residential settings.
• Isolate and repair wiring, switches, motors, and related equipment.
• Replace faulty switches, sockets, fuses, insulators, lighting, and fixtures.
• Renew circuits by replacing defective wiring or splicing ends.
• Estimate materials and time for each work order.
• Respond to emergencies and/or work overtime as needed on emergent repairs.
• Assist with coordinating external contractors on larger electrical projects.

Job description

Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities Management, installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment to maintain and improve Capital University facilities.

Responsibilities:

• Installs, inspects, and tests electrical lighting, signal, communication and power circuits and equipment, both residential and commercial applications.
• Isolates and repairs in wiring, switches, motors, motor controls, boiler / chiller systems, and other electrical equipment.
• Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, lighting, and other simple elements of electrical systems, fixtures, and appliances.
• Renews circuits either by isolating and cutting out defective wiring and replacing it with new wiring, or by splicing ends of broken wires.
• Responsible for estimating and running additional electrical circuits from panels to point of use.
• Replaces defective equipment while following LOTO policy, to restore equipment and systems.
• As required, estimate materials needed and record time and materials expended on each work order.
• Must be able to respond to emergencies as applicable and or willing to work overtime as needed on emergent repairs.
• Assist with managing and or assisting external contractors on larger electrical projects.

Qualifications:

• Knowledge and experience in electrical maintenance, repair, and installation, and associated hand and power tools and equipment. Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial / residential and service. Must have working knowledge and understanding of current NEC.
• Motor Vehicle operator's license and dependable transportation required.
• Ability to read blueprints and follow technical instructions.
• Ability to perform tasks in low, high, and tight spaces such as closets, windows, crawl spaces under floors and above ceilings, stairwells, equipment rooms, building exteriors, and roofs.
• Ability to handle exposure: to dirt, dust, and grease, electricity, climatic weather, various chemicals such as drain cleaners, mastics, glues, paint, loud equipment noises with multiple moving parts.
• Physical Requirements: ability to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
