  • Develop and prepare lesson plans, hands-on projects, demonstrations, and instructional materials.
  • Guide students toward industry-recognised credentials and employment opportunities.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, attendance, and completion of training requirements.
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom, lab, and training environment.
  • Coach and mentor students on employability skills and workplace expectations.
  • Assist with preparation for certifications or credentials.
  • Collaborate with Career Technical Training staff to support student development and job placement.

SUMMARY OF POSITION FUNCTION:

The Electrical Trades Instructor provides classroom and hands‑on instruction to students pursuing training in the electrical field. This position prepares students with the technical knowledge, practical skills, safety practices, and employability skills needed to successfully enter the electrical trade. The instructor evaluates student progress, provides hands‑on training, and helps students prepare for industry‑recognised credentials and employment opportunities.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides classroom and hands‑on instruction in electrical theory, wiring methods, circuits, electrical systems, tools, equipment, and industry safety practices.
  • Demonstrates the proper use of electrical tools, testing equipment, materials, and personal protective equipment.
  • Provides instruction consistent with applicable electrical codes, safety requirements, and industry standards.
  • Develops and prepares lesson plans, hands‑on projects, demonstrations, and instructional materials.
  • Provides students with industry‑recognised instruction and training designed to prepare them for employment in the electrical trade.
  • Monitors and evaluates student progress, skill development, attendance, and completion of training requirements.
  • Maintains a safe and organized classroom, lab, and hands‑on training environment.
  • Coaches and mentors students on workplace expectations, professionalism, safety, attendance, and employability skills.
  • Assists students with preparation for applicable industry‑recognised certifications or credentials.
  • Collaborates with Career Technical Training staff and other Center departments to support student development and successful job placement.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, wiring methods, electrical theory, circuits, tools, equipment, and safety practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes and industry standards.
  • Ability to demonstrate electrical concepts and techniques through classroom and hands‑on instruction.
  • Ability to safely supervise students performing electrical projects and practical exercises.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, mentor, or provide instruction to others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate young adults with varying skill levels and learning styles.
  • Ability to maintain an organized and safe training environment.
  • Ability to quickly learn Job Corps instructional methodologies and requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and other basic computer applications.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Must possess the applicable electrical licence, certification, accreditation, or industry‑recognised credential required by the State of Alabama, Job Corps, or the applicable professional trade organization.

Previous professional experience in the electrical trade required. Experience may include residential, commercial, or industrial electrical work. Previous teaching or training experience is preferred but not required.

OTHER:
  • Must possess valid driver’s licence.
