Job summary

Legrand seeks a Test Engineer to join the Pass & Seymour team in Syracuse, NY. You will perform lab testing and evaluation of wiring devices, troubleshoot issues, and document results for R&D and QA.

Responsibilities include coordinating with labs, maintaining certifications (UL/ETL, NEC, CSA, CB), and executing diverse test programs across electrical and mechanical domains. Travel up to 15% may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a professional engineering, test, compliance, certification, or related technical setting.
• Experience in a laboratory environment performing electrical/electronic, mechanical, reliability, thermal, environmental, qualification, or certification testing; wiring device experience preferred.
• Familiarity with low‑voltage power distribution equipment, electrical/electronic systems, components, testing methodologies, and applicable product safety, performance, and certification requirements.
• Exposure to or experience working with NRTLs, external test laboratories, agency partners, certification bodies, and common laboratory instruments.
• Sound analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills; attention to detail and the ability to organize work and manage assigned priorities.
• Effective verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical reports, certification documentation, and concise summaries.
• Computer proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Experience programming microcontrollers is a plus.
• This position may occasionally require exposure to manufacturing areas where PPE may be required.
• Able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate test activities with internal teams, agency partners, and external laboratories.
• Assist in planning and execute qualification, certification, reliability, thermal, environmental, mechanical, endurance, electrical testing.
• Maintain certification statuses for UL/ETL Listings, NEC, CSA, and CB Scheme certifications.
• Work with Product Teams to evaluate designs against regulatory, safety, and performance requirements.
• Document test findings and communicate certification updates to stakeholders.
• Prepare test samples, fixtures, and datasets; collect and summarize test data.
• Travel up to 15% to external test laboratories as needed.
