Job summary

Slate, a US-based electric vehicle company, seeks a Wiring and Triage Engineer to lead the development and integration of electrical components, including wiring harnesses, control modules, and lighting. The role reports to the Manager of Electrical Architecture and Power Distribution and requires leadership and initiative.

You will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to ensure seamless integration, support CAD designs, and apply LEAN methods.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Electrical/ Electronics/ Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of automotive electrical design and release experience.
• Hands-on schematic creation and device transmittals from suppliers.
• Experience with LV components: circuit breakers, relays, wiring.
• Experience with HV components: DCDC, motor/inverter, battery, OBC.
• Proficiency with CAN, LIN, Ethernet and UDS diagnostics.
• Experience with problem-solving methodologies (8D, Five Whys, Fishbone).
• Knowledge of FMVSSS, NHTSA, DOT, USCAR, SAE, NEC standards.
• Excellent communication and collaboration across cross-functional teams.
• Adaptable in fast-paced startup and new model launch environments.
• MS Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Define 2D schematics for base vehicle and accessories, including wiring harnesses, control modules, lighting, and other components.
• Support designs using CAD software while ensuring compatibility with vehicle systems.
• Work with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical components.
• Lead problem solving with manufacturing, purchasing, and other stakeholders to support production and resolve issues.
• Utilize LEAN Engineering methodologies throughout.

Our client is looking for an energetic, organized, experienced Wiring and Triage Engineer to join our growing team. Slate is a new US Based Electric Vehicle company transforming the battery electric vehicle space. Our technology is designed to deliver the most reliable and most efficient low cost of ownership electric vehicle on the market.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Slate is looking for an energetic and organized Wiring and Triage Engineer to lead the development and integration of electrical components.

This Engineer will report to the Manager of Electrical Architecture and Power Distribution. Responsibilities will be broad in scope and complex, requiring creativity, superior initiative, good judgement, and leadership skills.

• Define 2D and schematics for the base vehicle and accessories, including wiring harnesses, control modules, lighting, and other components.
• Support designs using CAD software while ensuring compatibility with vehicle systems.
• Work with various engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, software) to ensure seamless integration of electrical components.
• Lead problem solving with manufacturing, purchasing, and other stakeholders to support production and resolve issues.
• Utilize LEAN Engineering methodologies throughout.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent from an ABET accredited (or equivalent) program. Master's degree is preferred.
• 5 years of relevant experience in automotive electrical design and release.
• Hands on experience with schematic creation and device transmittals from suppliers.
• Hands on experience with Low Voltage (LV) components, such as circuit breakers, relays, wiring, etc.
• Hands on experience with High Voltage (HV) components, such as DCDC converter, motor and inverter, battery, on-board charger, etc.
• Hands on experience with CAN, LIN, and Ethernet communication protocols, including UDS based diagnostics.
• Experience using problem solving methodologies to diagnose complex issues, such as 8D, Five Whys, and Fishbone processes.
• Functional experience with industry standards and regulatory requirements, such as FMVSSS, NHTSA, DOT, USCAR, SAE, NEC, etc.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve common goals.
• Highly adaptable and proactive, excelling in fast-paced start-up and new model launch environments.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must have the ability to travel (up to 50%).
• Must have the ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Must have the ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
