Job summary

Slate Auto LLC is looking for an experienced electrical system designer to develop requirements and manage suppliers. This role involves leading design reviews and testing wiring systems for prototype vehicles.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Develop electrical system requirements and manage Tier1 suppliers for different harnesses and jumpers.
  • Work with other groups to determine interface information needed to complete the electrical system design.
  • Lead and/or participate in vehicle‑level technical design reviews with all groups and suppliers.
  • Assist in the definition of all in‑line connector selections, circuit definitions and sizing as it relates to component and system loads.
  • Track open issues, communicate issues to all groups and set up meetings to close issues; Escalate major issues immediately to leadership.
  • Plan and execute system design timing alignment with overall program timing, mitigate conflicts as appropriate.
  • Create and maintain electrical system level DFMEA and DVP&R where applicable.
  • Support electrical wire‑harness and component system functions, electrical test lines at vehicle final assembly plant.
  • Test, rework and debug wiring systems on prototype and pre‑production vehicles.
  • Assure piece‑cost targets, ED&D budget, timing, weight and quality intent is achieved.
  • Utilize LEAN Engineering methodologies throughout.
  • Develop and document test plans for the wiring harnesses.
  • Provide leadership of Tier1 suppliers.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or equivalent from an ABET‑accredited program.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in electrical system design.
  • Hands‑on, detail‑oriented experience with low‑voltage and high‑voltage systems.
  • Excellent communication, team‑building and relationship‑building skills.
  • Experience with low‑voltage components such as circuit breakers, relays, wiring, etc.
  • Experience with high‑voltage components such as DC‑DC, motor and inverter, battery, and on‑board charger.
  • Experience with harness development tools such as Capital and Zuken.
  • Knowledge of CAN, LIN, Ethernet, LVDS and A2B protocol physical topology requirements.
  • Familiarity with 8D, five whys, and fishbone process to diagnose complex issues.
  • PPAP experience developing and creating design records, FMEAs, control plans, etc.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as FMVSS, NHTSA, DOT, USCAR, SAE, NEC, etc.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis; visa sponsorship not available.
Salary and Benefits

Salary Range (Annual): $108,877.00 – $163,316.00

Additional Compensation: equity program and/or discretionary annual incentive program, subject to program rules.
