Job description

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Production position, working under the supervision of an experienced technician and/or Production Foreman.

FUNCTIONS

Production Technician

Build and maintain new and existing field vehicles and related equipment. Perform repair work, adjustments, troubleshoot, and address maintenance issues as required. Ensure vehicle safety compliance as it pertains to equipment, verify newly built vehicles meet all requirements for field service. Participate in shop safety, field safety, health, and environmental programs.

Electrical Technician

Understand electrical schematics, drawings, and blueprints. Have knowledge of mechanical components and their relation to electrical wiring, hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic cabling installations for new builds and maintenance of existing equipment. Ability to read blueprints for production assemblies and troubleshoot existing equipment. Work with minimal supervision and complete tasks assigned by supervisor in a timely manner.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Perform other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: High School Diploma/GED. Post-secondary education and/or technical trade certificate is an asset.
  • Experience: Two to three years’ experience in the functions listed above.
  • Skills/Qualifications: Proficiency with basic office computer software, and the ability to learn how to effectively use software to input data and conduct research.
  • Skills/Competencies:
    • Communicate effectively; work in a team environment or independently when needed.
    • Using crimping tools and wires to build electrical system enclosures.
    • Testing and troubleshooting wires (volts, amps, resistance, continuity meter), identifying wires and electrical circuits.
    • Reading electrical blueprints.
    • Soldering connectors and wires.
    • Basic knowledge about relays, breakers, electrical valves, power supply, PLC, HMI.
    • Using power tools.
    • Knowledge of American wire gauge standards.
    • Motorizing DC bi-directional motors connection.
    • Basic automotive electrical system knowledge (battery system connection, DC fuse panel, ignition signal).
    • Wiring and pulling cables according to Sperry standards.
    • Basic mechanical skills (tapping, using proper screw sizes for specific applications).
    • Minimum knowledge about encoder signal systems.
    • Install and mount computer units inside rack cabinets, run cables to appropriate equipment, test connections.
