Job summary

Okaloosa County School System is seeking an Electrical Helper to assist with installations, maintenance and repairs of water distribution, wastewater collection and wastewater treatment facility structures, equipment, and monitoring devices.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least six months of electrical experience; a valid driver license is required and a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) badge must be obtainable.

Responsibilities

• Assists Electrical Technicians with construction, maintenance, and repairs on water/wastewater facilities and equipment.
• Troubleshoots and traces electrical circuits in control panels and equipment; identifies and repairs defective components.
• Operates and maintains diagnostic instruments, meters and gauges.
• Maintains maintenance duty records, including work orders, materials and fuel logs.
• Reports deterioration or maintenance needs to foreman.
• Supports emergency power availability from generators.
• Responds to emergency water/sewer issues outside normal hours.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Assists with installations, construction, maintenance, and repairs of water distribution, wastewater collection and wastewater treatment facility (WWTF) system structures, equipment and monitoring devices.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

• Assists Electrical Technicians with the construction, maintenance, and repairs on structures, facilities and equipment for the water and sewer collection and distribution systems and the wastewater treatment facilities.
• Assists with troubleshooting and/or tracing electrical circuits in control panels and other equipment; helps identify and repair/replace defective components.
• Operates and maintains diagnostic instruments, trade specific meters and gauges.
• Assists in performing maintenance duty records, to include work orders, materials and supplies utilized, labor required, maintenance logs, and fuel logs.
• Reports any detected deterioration, repair and maintenance needs to foreman.
• Assists with the availability of emergency power supply from generators.
• Responds to emergent water and sewer maintenance and repair issues outside of normal duty hours as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience: High school diploma or GED supplemented by a minimum of six (6) months of electrical experience which provides the ability to perform basic tasks in the trade, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience in electrical preferred.

Licenses and/or Certifications

Requires a valid driver license. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) badge.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to operate various hand-held manual, electrical, and gas-powered equipment and tools. Must be able to exert 50 to 120 pounds of force occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 25 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Requires the ability to position self in confined areas, for work overhead and to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like. Requires the ability to traverse irregular, uneven, and/or erratically moving surfaces frequently. Must be able to complete work tasks by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities, back muscles and spine. Requires the ability to move about on hands/knees or hands/feet. Must be able to reach, extending hands in any direction, and to handle, seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with hands and/or fingers. Prolonged periods of walking and/or standing frequently are required in this position. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work.
