Job summary

Super Radiator Coils seeks an experienced Electrical Technician to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial electrical systems in our Richmond, VA facility. You will work on production machinery, read schematics, and ensure safety compliance while coordinating with maintenance teams.

Job description

The electrical technician position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial electrical systems, production equipment, and facility electrical infrastructure. These duties are to be conducted in accordance with safety, predictive, and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of business goals and objectives.

Requirements Essential Functions

• Install, inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial electrical equipment and systems serving production machinery and plant facilities.
• Diagnose electrical faults involving motors, motor starters, contactors, relays, transformers, circuit protection, disconnects, power supplies, heating circuits, and related components.
• Troubleshoot and service single-phase and three-phase electrical systems, including motor and power distribution circuits.
• Use electrical test equipment such as digital multimeters, clamp meters, insulation resistance testers, and other diagnostic tools safely and effectively.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, equipment manuals, and internal work orders to perform required service.
• Trace field wiring, identify conductors, verify terminations, and correct damaged, loose, or improperly installed electrical connections.
• Install and replace electrical devices and components, including conduit, wire, cable, junction boxes, switches, receptacles, lighting, motors, disconnects, and control-panel components.
• Diagnose and repair electrical issues associated with PLC-controlled equipment, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, and machine safety circuits while coordinating advanced controls support when needed.
• Identify and specify suitable replacement or alternative components when original parts become obsolete, ensuring appropriate electrical ratings and functional equivalence.
• Determine repair-versus-replace options and clearly communicate the advantages, risks, and limitations of each option.
• Perform Root Cause Failure Analysis to identify the true cause of a failure, correct the problem, and prevent recurrence.
• Perform regular preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical systems, production equipment, and plant facilities.
• Perform scheduled electrical repairs and component replacements during machine TPM outages.
• Document maintenance work, test results, repairs, wire changes, component replacements, and updates to electrical drawings or equipment records.
• Provide emergency and unscheduled repairs of production equipment during off hours as required.
• Coordinate with electrical contractors, obtain quotes, and manage contractors during onsite work.
• Detect faulty operations, defective materials, or other abnormal situations and report observations to proper supervision, intervening immediately when personnel or equipment safety is at risk.
• Follow lockout/tagout, electrical safe-work practices, PPE requirements, and all applicable company safety procedures.
• Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas to 5S standards.
• Take on other duties or assist in other departments as business needs change and a willingness to cross train as a multicraft technician and assist with or do mechanical repairs and service to equipment, as needed or directed.
• Receive direction from supervisor and execute all tasks as directed.
• Work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with maintenance technicians, controls technicians, operators, engineers, contractors, and other SRC employees.
• Work effectively with limited supervision and independently execute assigned work at a high level.
• Work at least one Saturday per month and additional Saturdays as business needs dictate.
• Work second shift (2:30-11:00 p.m.) and make temporary schedule changes to cover teammate PTO, including vacations, illnesses, and appointments.
• Flex break and lunch schedules to accommodate production and facility needs.

Required Skills

• Strong industrial electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills in a manufacturing, industrial, or commercial environment.
• Working knowledge of electrical theory, AC and DC circuits, single-phase and three-phase power, motors, motor controls, and electrical distribution.
• Ability to safely troubleshoot energized electrical systems when authorized and when required by an approved safe-work plan.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel drawings, and equipment documentation.
• Ability to select and use electrical test instruments and hand and power tools safely.
• Working knowledge of lockout/tagout and electrical safe-work practices.
• Basic familiarity with PLC-controlled equipment, HMIs, VFDs, industrial sensors, and machine safety devices.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
• Able to safely lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
• Able to stand for long periods and frequently stoop, bend, push, and pull.

• Four or more years of relevant electrical experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or commercial field environment.
• High school diploma or GED plus completion of an electrical apprenticeship, technical program, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
• Clear and effective verbal, written, and typed communication skills across the Production Support Team and operations floor leadership.
• Possess a basic understanding of math, including measurements and electrical calculations used in the trade.
• Able to follow supervisor direction and accurately execute assigned work.
• Open to constructive feedback and makes appropriate adjustments.
• Team player with a positive attitude in the face of challenges.
• Resourceful and able to safely solve new or unique challenges.
• Eager to learn new information and techniques to improve the electrical craft and understand all aspects of the coil manufacturing process.

Preferred Skills

• Journeyman Electrician license or recognized industrial electrical credential
• NFPA 70E electrical safety training
• Experience applying the National Electrical Code in industrial facilities
• Experience with industrial power distribution, electrical panels, transformers, and three-phase systems
• Experience troubleshooting motors, motor starters, VFDs, heating circuits, and machine safety circuits
• Experience with Allen-Bradley, Rockwell, or Siemens industrial controls equipment
• Proficiency with electrical drafting software such as AutoCAD Electrical or SOLIDWORKS Electrical
• Infrared thermography or predictive maintenance training
• PLC troubleshooting or programming experience
• Pneumatic or hydraulic training and certifications and repair of mechanical equipment.
