This is the opportunity of a lifetime. Auriga Space is revolutionizing propulsion by developing electromagnetic launch systems that offer significant advantages in launch cost, reliability, frequency, and responsiveness compared to rockets.
Role Summary:
Auriga is seeking an experienced Electrical Technician to build, wire, debug, and test the electrical systems behind our electromagnetic launch hardware. This is a hands‑on role centered on harness fabrication, electrical integration, and troubleshooting across both low-voltage control and signal systems and high-voltage power systems. You will work from schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings, but also from verbal direction and early-stage documentation, partnering closely with engineers to turn designs into working hardware and to flag issues before they reach the build. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of hands‑on electrical experience, takes pride in clean, precise, well‑documented work, holds a safety-first mindset around high voltage, and thrives in a fast‑paced start‑up environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drawings & system understanding: Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, pinouts, interconnect drawings, and engineering drawings, and translate them into finished hardware.
- Build feasibility feedback: Review designs before and during the build and give engineers practical feedback on build feasibility, manufacturability, and potential issues such as connector access, wire gauge, routing constraints, or pinout errors.
- Harness fabrication: Build, modify, and repair electrical harnesses and cable assemblies, including wire preparation, stripping, crimping, soldering, connector and terminal installation, routing, labeling, lacing, and proper strain relief, to IPC/WHMA-A-620 and IPC J-STD-001 standards.
- Electrical integration: Install and integrate harnesses, panels, and electrical subassemblies into higher‑level assemblies, test stands, and complete systems from drawings, work instructions, and travelers.
- High- & low-voltage work: Work safely on low‑voltage control and signal circuits as well as high-voltage and high‑energy systems, applying lockout/tagout, isolation, grounding, and verification of absence of voltage before any work begins.
- Electrical debugging: Troubleshoot electrical faults using multimeters, insulation resistance (megohm) testers, hipot testers, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and other diagnostic equipment, working systematically to isolate root causes.
- Independent problem solving: Work independently from verbal direction, redlines, incomplete instructions, or partially developed documentation, making sound decisions and escalating questions when they matter.
- Test & verification: Perform continuity, isolation, and functional checks on harnesses and assemblies; set up test equipment; support functional and acceptance testing; and record results on data sheets or in an electronic collection system.
- Workmanship & documentation: Maintain close attention to connector pinning, wire identification, routing, workmanship, and system configuration, and keep as‑built records, redlines, and travelers accurate and current.
- Engineering communication: Communicate clearly with engineers about issues, findings, and recommended changes, and help drive root-cause and corrective actions.
- Safety: Use proper personal protective equipment (PPE), arc‑flash protection, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) practices, and follow all safety procedures.
- Shop & team support: Maintain and calibrate tools and equipment, keep the shop and lab clean, organized, and safe, and provide guidance to junior technicians while helping improve processes, quality, and throughput.
Basic Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of wiring harness fabrication, electrical assembly, integration, or test, ideally with aerospace, defense, energy, or other high‑reliability hardware.
- Able to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, pinouts, and engineering drawings.
- Strong hands‑on experience building, modifying, and repairing wire harnesses, including crimping, soldering, connector pinning, terminations, labeling, and strain relief.
- Working knowledge of both low‑voltage control/signal systems and high‑voltage electrical systems, including safe work practices such as lockout/tagout, isolation, grounding, and voltage verification.
- Proficiency troubleshooting electrical issues with a multimeter and other common diagnostic equipment.
- Able to work independently from verbal direction or incomplete documentation and systematically work a problem to its root cause.
- Familiarity with proper PPE and ESD handling practices.
Additional Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail, organization, reliability, and safety awareness.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and a team‑first attitude.
- Working proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams).
- Able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with high‑voltage, pulsed‑power, capacitor‑bank, or high‑current systems.
- Experience with test equipment such as hipot and insulation resistance testers, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and data acquisition systems.
- Experience with MIL‑spec and aerospace connectors (e.g., MIL‑DTL‑38999, D‑sub, Micro‑D) and associated tooling.
- Experience in a start‑up, rapid prototyping, or aerospace/defense development environment.
- Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems.
- Passion for advanced manufacturing and next‑generation space and defense systems.
Education & Certifications:
- Required: Relevant associate degree or industry certification (preferred), or
- High school diploma or GED with 5+ years of proven hands‑on experience in aerospace, defense, or a related high‑reliability industry.
- Preferred education: Associate degree (AAS) in Electronics or Electrical Engineering Technology, Avionics, Mechatronics, Instrumentation & Controls, or a related field; or equivalent military electronics/avionics technician training.
- Workmanship certifications (preferred): IPC/WHMA-A-620, IPC J-STD-001 (Space Addendum a plus), IPC‑A‑610, and/or NASA‑STD‑8739.3/8739.4, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Electrical safety & technician certifications (preferred): NFPA 70E qualified electrical worker training, NETA technician certification, state electrician license, or ETA/ISCET electronics technician certification.
To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
