Salas O'Brien, Inc. in Plymouth, MI, is seeking an Electrical Technical Leader to provide technical direction, discipline leadership, and quality oversight across electrical projects.

The role partners with PMs and teams to resolve challenges and promote high-quality deliverables. The ideal candidate holds a ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering degree, 10+ years in MEP consulting, 5+ years in leadership, and PE licensure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• Minimum (10) ten years of relevant experience in a MEP consulting firm.
• Minimum (5) five years leadership management.
• Professional Engineer Licensure is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical oversight and guidance on electrical engineering projects, including complex design decisions, constructability, code compliance, and project risks.
• Own electrical discipline standards and quality expectations; oversee QA/QC reviews to promote accurate, coordinated deliverables.
• Identify and implement improvements to design standards, workflows, tools, and technical processes in alignment with organizational priorities.
• Partner with Project Managers, Team Leaders, and other disciplines to resolve technical challenges, align resources, and support project schedules and client commitments.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in design reviews and project discussions as needed, and support professional, responsive communication with external parties.
• Coach and mentor engineers and designers, provide timely and actionable technical feedback, and support individual skill development and career growth.
• Promote a culture of quality, continuous feedback, and empowering growth.
• Assess technical capabilities, training needs, software, and other discipline resources; recommend practical solutions to strengthen team performance.
• Stay current with applicable codes, emerging technologies, and industry practices; translate relevant developments into improved engineering solutions.
• Evaluates technical performance with success measured by fewer QA/QC findings and less rework, consistent adoption of standards and tools, and skill growth across the electrical team.
• Maintain an active Professional Engineer (PE) license and seal drawings when needed, though this is not a routine part of the role.

Job Summary: The Electrical Technical Leader provides technical direction, quality oversight, and discipline leadership to ensure electrical engineering work is accurate, coordinated, and aligned with client expectations and company standards. The Technical Leader focuses on technical consistency across projects, sound engineering decisions, and reliable, practical solutions.

The Technical Leader reports to the Director of Operations & AI and has no direct reports.

The Technical Leader develops engineering talent through coaching, constructive feedback, and knowledge sharing. Working collaboratively with Project Managers, Team Leaders, and other disciplines, this role promotes accountability, continuous improvement, and a positive, high-performing team environment.

• Demonstrated ability to achieve measurable results based on client satisfaction
• Demonstrated understanding and participation in professional networks in the AEC industry

Location : Plymouth, MI (Hybrid)

Travel : Up to 15%
