Job summary

Bollinger Mississippi Shipbuilding, LLC in Pascagoula, MS seeks an experienced Electrical Specialist to install, wire, terminate and test electrical systems aboard new commercial marine vessels and offshore platforms. You will interpret drawings, work with VFDs, and ensure compliance with DNV/ABS/Coast Guard codes while coordinating with the electrical foreman.

8 years in marine construction and formal electrical training are required; proficiency with MS Office is expected.

Qualifications

• 8 years' experience in the Marine Ship Building and Offshore construction including Hazardous Areas classifications and equipment.
• Formal electrical training; i.e. 4 year electrical apprenticeship program, vocational certification, trade school for electrical commercial/industrial wiring or equivalent.
• Ability to read and follow approved engineering drawings and recognize discrepancies.
• Familiar with updated Codes; DnV/ABS/Coast Guard/API/MODU/NEC/IEEE/IEC.

Responsibilities

• Alarm monitoring controls installation, wiring, termination and testing.
• System controls installation, and testing, e.g. motor operating valves, calibrating 4-20 milliamp instrumentation, testing using Hand Pump, Druck Calibrators, Process Meters, Decade Boxes, etc.
• Main switchboard, main transformer installation, wiring, termination and testing.
• Generator controls, load bank testing, etc.
• Radio, radar, sonar, fire control installation, termination and testing.

Job description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

The electrical specialist is capable of installing electrical equipment, wiring, terminating and testing for all electrical services aboard new construction of commercial marine service, navy, LNG vessels, and oil field drill ships. Reports directly to and works under the general direction of the electrical foreman.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Alarm monitoring controls installation, wiring, termination and testing.
• System controls installation, and testing, i.e. motor operating valves, calibrating 4-20 milliamp instrumentation, testing using Hand Pump, Druck Calibrators, Process Meters, Decade Boxes, etc.
• Main switchboard, main transformer installation, wiring, termination and testing.
• Generator controls, load bank testing, etc.
• Radio, radar, sonar, fire control installation, termination and testing.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Proficient in reading and following approved engineering drawings with the ability of recognizing discrepancies in relation to the build specifications.
• Comprehend and follow schematics/notes, wiring diagrams/notes, and vendor manuals.
• Understanding of hazardous area equipment classifications, and IP ratings for proper installation.
• Familiar with Variable Frequency Drives.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
• Experience Using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
• Familiar with updated Codes; DnV/ABS/Coast Guard/API/MODU/NEC/IEEE/IEC
