Job summary

Bollinger Mississippi Shipbuilding LLC in Pascagoula, MS seeks an Electrical Specialist to install, wire, terminate and test electrical systems on new marine vessels. You will work under the electrical foreman on equipment including main switchboards, transformers, generators, and shipboard controls.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in marine shipbuilding, formal electrical training, and solid knowledge of hazardous areas, wiring diagrams, and applicable codes.

Qualifications

• Read and follow engineering drawings and schematics with attention to build specs.
• Understand wiring diagrams, notes, and vendor manuals.
• Knowledge of hazardous area classifications and IP ratings.
• Familiarity with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
• Maintain effective working relationships in a marine shipbuilding setting.
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
• Awareness of relevant codes (NEC, IEEE, IEC, DnV/ABS/Coast Guard/API).

Responsibilities

ELECTRICAL SPECIALIST

GENERAL FUNCTION

The electrical specialist is capable of installing electrical equipment, wiring, terminating and testing for all electrical services aboard new construction of commercial marine service, navy, LNG vessels, and oil field drill ships. Reports directly to and works under the general direction of the electrical foreman.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Alarm monitoring controls installation, wiring, termination and testing.
• System controls installation, and testing, i.e. motor operating valves, calibrating 4-20 milliamp instrumentation, testing using Hand Pump, Druck Calibrators, Process Meters, Decade Boxes, etc.
• Main switchboard, main transformer installation, wiring, termination and testing.
• Generator controls, load bank testing, etc.
• Radio, radar, sonar, fire control installation, termination and testing.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Proficient in reading and following approved engineering drawings with the ability of recognizing discrepancies in relation to the build specifications.
• Comprehend and follow schematics/notes, wiring diagrams/notes, and vendor manuals.
• Understanding of hazardous area equipment classifications, and IP ratings for proper installation.
• Familiar with Variable Frequency Drives.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
• Experience Using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
• Familiar with updated Codes; DnV/ABS/Coast Guard/API/MODU/NEC/IEEE/IEC

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

• 8 years’ experience in the Marine Ship Building and Offshore construction including Hazardous Areas classifications and equipment.
• Formal electrical training; i.e. 4 year electrical apprenticeship program, vocational certification, trade school for electrical commercial/industrial wiring or equivalent.
