Job summary

Affiliated Engineers, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Senior Project Engineer - Substation Power Systems in our Denver office.

You will design and manage power systems across medium and high voltage, lead substation projects, and coordinate with utilities and stakeholders to deliver sustainable energy solutions. Responsibilities include mentoring teams, ensuring design quality, and delivering client-focused results on cutting-edge projects.

Qualifications

• BSEE from ABET-accredited program required.
• PE license or ability to obtain licensure in multiple states.
• 10+ years of MV/HV power distribution/design experience.
• Experience with DER, BESS, and grid-scale PV.

Responsibilities

Overview

Electrical Senior Project Engineer - Substation Power Systems in the Denver office. You will help empower clients to achieve energy-efficient building solutions and sustainable, greener outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage the power systems design process on assigned projects, developing innovative design solutions to meet project, client, and partner needs.
• Lead substation design efforts including utility coordination, relaying and protection, switchgear automation, dynamic load analysis, SCADA design, Vdc distribution, DER and renewable energy generation, battery energy storage systems, microgrids, and campus distribution for medium and high voltage.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients and project partners; mentor and coordinate project teams; ensure follow-through with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• BSEE from an ABET-accredited program.
• Professional engineering registration required; ability to obtain licensure in various states as needed.
• 10+ years of experience designing MV or HV power distribution, generation, and/or transmission systems.
• Proficiency in power engineering design software (power systems modeling, SCCAF) and Microsoft Office suite.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work well in a team; capable of mentoring and providing/receiving feedback.
• Experience in medium and/or high voltage substation design; expertise in relaying, protection, and metering design with microprocessor-based devices; familiarity with startup and acceptance testing.
• Expertise in switchgear/substation automation sequences of operations and SCADA implementation.
• Experience coordinating with Utility Companies for point of demarcation, interconnect agreements, and design standards compliance.
• Experience with Distributed Energy Resources (DER), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and grid-scale PV technology.
