Job summary

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology preferred.
  • 2+ years in electrical assembly, prototype fabrication, or electronics manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical circuits, wiring, soldering (through-hole and SMT), and cable assembly.
  • Experience using electrical test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, and power supplies.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and assembly instructions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, assemble and test prototype builds; support lab setup, maintenance and improvements.
  • Power prototype labs using 480V 3Ø lines, including large grid EV charger.
  • Use electrical test equipment like multimeters and oscilloscopes; operate LabJack, LabView, and related tools.
  • Read schematics, BOMs and wiring diagrams; document test results and engineering changes.
  • Assemble electrical and electromechanical prototypes from drawings and work instructions.
  • Identify and resolve electrical/mechanical issues during prototype development.
  • Assist engineers with design verification, modifications, and validation testing.

Job Summary

The Electrical Prototype Technician is responsible for assembling, wiring, testing, and troubleshooting electrical prototypes and engineering development units. This role works closely with engineers to support product design, validate electrical systems, and ensure prototypes meet performance and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparing, assembling and testing prototype builds. Support the setup, maintenance and improvement of the lab environment.
  • Use of 480V 3Ω power lines to power medium-power prototypes. The main prototype being a large grid EV charger.
  • Comprehensive use of electrical measuring equipment: Multimeters, Oscilloscopes.
  • Use a wide range of electrical equipment.
  • Further use of testing equipment: LabJack with Kipling software, LabView, Regenerative Grid simulator.
  • Collaborated with Engineers to create test harnesses, load circuits and banks.
  • Worked together with engineers and technicians to build, maintain, and improve prototypes.
  • Assemble electrical and electromechanical prototypes from engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Perform point-to-point wiring, cable harness assembly, soldering, and component installation.
  • Test and troubleshoot electrical circuits, PCB assemblies, and prototype systems using multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Identify, document, and resolve electrical and mechanical issues during prototype development.
  • Assist engineers with design verification, product modifications, and validation testing.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Maintain accurate documentation of prototype builds, test results, and engineering changes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality procedures, and manufacturing best practices.
  • Maintain a clean and organized prototype laboratory and work area.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and recommend process enhancements.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in electrical assembly, prototype fabrication, or electronics manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical circuits, wiring, soldering (through-hole and surface mount preferred), and cable assembly.
  • Experience using electrical test equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, and power supplies.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and assembly instructions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced engineering environment.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with PCB assembly and rework.
  • Familiarity with IPC‑A‑610 and IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 standards.
  • Knowledge of low‑voltage DC and AC electrical systems.
  • Experience supporting new product development (NPD) or research and development (R&D) teams.
  • Basic mechanical assembly and fabrication skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and perform repetitive assembly tasks for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity for precision assembly and soldering.
